I am delighted to announce the my Mitchell L. Mitchell car number AM101.708 has been accepted to compete in the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours in the Postwar Preservation Class L-2.
This is as far as I can tell the first or the second 3500GT to be accepted by the selection committee in the history of the Concours.
It is interesting to note that the first owner of 708 was a man by the name of Mr. Stanley W. Good. Stanley was a San Francisco Maserati super enthusiast who went on to win Best of show at the 1967 Pebble Beach Concours with his 1967 Maserati Mistral coupe.
This is the only time a Maserati has ever won the coveted Best of Show prize.

After a short period Stanley sold the Mitchell car to Dr. Henry C. Portalupi

Then according to documents that came with the car.

Dr. Henry C. Portalupi's wife (who won the car in the divorce settlement) Mary E. Portalupi of 770 11th Street, Arcata California sold the car on April 20 1962 to Mitchell L Mitchell of 2901 Broadway SF. Mr. Mitchell owned the car until his untimely demise in April 1987. At this point the car passed to his daughter Gladyne who sold the car to Francis G Mandarano on Oct 29th 2010. The car was in the Mitchell family for a total of 48 years.
With this great history and great story I am looking forward to showing the car and competing with other survivors.
    Ciao,

PS Yes, those seat belts were factory installed and listed on the purchase order along with the Smiths instruments in MPH and the bumper guards.

Go to the Pebble Beach web site and click on Best of Show winners.
Then scroll down to 1968 and you will see a white Mistral coupe receiving the best of show trophy from the judges. Note how few people there are in the photo.

    Congrates Frank,
A few years ago Carlos had his survivor 3500 GT Judged at Pebble, after he drove it down from the Seattle tour. He continued on with the car to the East Coast!
Looking forward to seeing it grace the place.
    RF.

Congratulations, Frank. I hope your car does well. I was impressed with your car when you first showed it at E@RTC.

Super cool, congratulations. Yours is obviously truly preserved, not a neglected survivor like many of the cars that are shown in the "Preservation" class. I hope your Maserati wins the class.

Many thanks to those of you who have commented on this acceptance and provided words of encouragement.

As these very handsome cars continue to be brought back to their original condition and tuned properly we should see more and more of them featured in major Concours, books and magazines.
When properly sorted they sing and present themselves in a way that is intoxicating.

I will be sure to photograph this experience in order for you to experience it along with me.
I was accepted at Pebble two times before once with our A6G54 Frua Spider #2191 (i believe) and once with our Bertone bodied 3500. This will be my third time at Pebble with a Maserati.
It is my opinion that the Mitchell car will be able to handle itself quite well.
    Ciao,
    FGM
