I had the same thought as you, so I sent Steve a PM a few days ago, but no reply as yet. The Daytona Registry has a photo of these and this is the text :- Spyder Eyebrows Serial Number: 16915 "Spyders came with these vinyl 'eyebrows' w/Velcro to conceal the roof latches " I think 16915 was Lance Hill's car, is anyone in contact with him, to ask the question? Thanks Jeff for sending me that, but it is still unclear to me how they go, they might cover the catches when the roof is down to stop them rubbing on the seat, but I don't know why they would have made them the curved shape! Grant
It looks like I may have found the answer. After being pointed in the right direction. I looked through all the photos that I have collected of genuine Spyder's and found this one of 16903 when it was showing 7035 miles on the clock. The catches have Velcro on them, so that must be where they go. Attached is a photo of 16903 with the Velcro on the catches and the second is of the boots just pushed in place on my car, I think when I get some Velcro on my catches, they should bend around the sides. If anyone has a photo to confirm this that would be great. Thanks for your help Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, after having my steering wheels for 5 year,s the trimmer then told me he could not stitch the leather in the way the old steering wheels were done!! he had my original one and one i bought just in case from a 71 car. After hunting around I got in contact with Rorky of O'Rourke Coach Trimmers, one of the best trimmers in the land, he in fact was taught by a man who was taught by the man that trimmed my car, small world! He came to look at the wheels as he was passing, and although he had a huge work load he agreed to sort out my wheels. This was not as straight forward as it sounds. The packing around the wheels had deteriorated and on my wheel it was rubbish ,as I had to have, specially welded, two of the spokes to the rims, and then i tried to re-foam it which I thought was OK, but it was nowhere near good enough for Rorky. Here are some pic's he sent after starting on them. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Assume the wheel with holes is the one from the 71 car? On another matter how do you find roof restricts the amount of movement in the seatbelt when it's lowered? Was out in Dad's Spyder last weeked and with the roof down I could barely get the belt on (and I'm not a big guy)!
Hi Matt. Yes the 71 has holes and my latter one has not. Re the seat belts, no it makes no difference with the roof up or down. Does your Dad's car still have the harness type, as it had when it was red, or have reels been fitted, if so were are they located? Grant
Matt. I think it will be the roof frame pushing down on the seat belts, there is not a lot can be done to them, with that set up. Your tonneau cover flap, should also have slots for the seat belts, to go through. I will be going to Cliveden House, on Sunday and may be taking the Daytona, depending on the weather, it might be worth popping in, and taking a look at my set up. I think it is fairly near to you, there will be 175 super cars to look at as well! Cliveden House | Luxury Country House Hotel in Berkshire, near London PS I will let you know on Sat. which car I am taking. Grant
Rorky is back on the steering wheel. First pic is foaming the spokes, and second is skiving in the leather for the spokes. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've displayed the Daytona at Cliveden before, not sure I can make it on Sunday, but I will try and pop in if I can.
Hi Matt. I went to the FOC picnic on Sunday, and took a few photos showing the seat belts in mine with the roof down and the cover in position. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes Matt. It was a good day out, the weather was Ok for once, but more importantly dry. About 70 Ferrari's turned out, including an Enzo, but I don't know where he put his picnic ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jeff sent me a photo of this Genuine Spyder which is for sale at the moment, and has the eyebrows in place. Thanks Jeff. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The sun came out for the second time this year, so i had chance to do some cleaning. Here are a few pics'. I have now hard wired a very discrete power socket for the sat nav. [ no extra holes and very easily reversible] This was very necessary after getting lost in the dark last year!!! [ thank god for mobile phones]. The steering wheels where delayed a bit. Rorky was not happy with the moldings he had fitted to my wheels, in his words they were not mm perfect. He was using some rubbers that where not original to go around the rims. The old profile rubbers where not available any more, so he had some made at great expense. Here is a pic. of the old rubber and the new and the progress that has been made. Grant I have seen and touched the steering wheel today. I think this is going to be stunning. It feels great and when the leather is on, wow !! Really super work and has that mm perfectness about it. I am sure you will be as delighted as I was impressed. Mark
Thanks Mark, I am sure they will. I have just received the final photo's. So the last part of the jigsaw is almost complete. I will be collecting the steering wheels at the FOC concour new weekend, where my car will be on display. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another piece to the jig saw. I received a tip off from Paul, that there was an advert in the April 1986 edition of Motor Sport mag. of my car. He sent me a scan of the advert which was not great due the the copy he had, he also sent me a link to a copy of the mag. that was for sale on e-bay. This arrived today, and it looks like the car had some very unusual aftermarket wheels on at the time. Has any one seen this wheels on a Daytona before? Below is a photo the add. and a photo of how the car was when I bought it. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Grant That is not a picture of your car. Will not be at my desk for a couple of days to check what the actual number of that car is. But it was Robert Jankel's old car and the photo was taken at his place. It is now owned by Carlos Monteverde and is white. Mark
Thanks Mark. I guess it would not be the first time a dealer uses a stock photo in the advert, and I have noticed now you have said it, that it does not have the front nudge bar, as mine has had, since nearly new! If you have a better photo showing these wheels I would love to see it? Grant
