Formula 1 driver Jose "Pepe" Froilan Gonzalez, the man who gave Ferrari its first Formula 1 victory in Silverstone, 1951, passed away at 90.
He was the last of the legends who raced side by side with Fangio, Farina, Ascari, Villoressi, and the rest of the Formula pioneers.
He also won Le Mans in 1954. A very nice gentleman. R.I.P Pepe. We will miss you, but we also know that right now you are racing again with your buddies.

    Sorry to hear that.

I remember a picture of him in R&T I beleive and the capture was:

"In my days the driver was fat and the tyres were skinny" or...

Race on in heaven dear Gonzalez.

Froilan Gonzalez was one of the characters I loved to read about when I was younger. An early inspiration for my love of all Italian racing marques. He was lucky to survive unscathed those dangerous years of motor sport and it's wonderful he had such a long long innings. RIP the Pampas Bull.

There are three separate threads devoted to this topic......

(I've already given my R.I.P. in the one on the F1 forum.)
