Hi Folks, I've removed the two screws holding the shift gate down in an attempt to remove it. Now it appears to be stuck to surface of the console. Does anyone have any hints on how to get it unstuck without damaging the plastic console? Perhaps if I remove the lower console it would be easier to work with. Anyone know how the lower console is attached? Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Rob.
Porbably just need to tug a little bit more - It's been on there for a bunch of years! Here is a pic of it removed in the 328 : Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Rob, I've taken my shifter gate off several times w/o any problems so I'm not sure how it can get stuck unless some one may be added some glue? However, to remove the console plastic parts here's what you do: 1. Open the ash tray, take out the ash inserts. 2. Unscrew the 2 screws holding the ash tray in then pull it out. 3. Lift up the console part with the gas tank, door lock buttons, unplug the connector for these devices. 4. Your at the shifter gate now may be you can see something holding it? Good luck, hope this helps. Regards, Jim
To add to what colo348 said: 5. loosen the screw under the ball on the shift leaver, unscrew and remove the ball, then take the shift gate and plastic piece completely off. This way you can mess with it from the bottom also. I think what has happened is that the rubberish coating on the part has stuck to the shift gate. You'll get it off.
Thanks guys! I just removed the entire lower console to access under the shift gate (to add a new rubber shift boot). The shift gate is still stuck to lower console & I don't think its going come apart without causing damage. btw, has anyone replaced their console (upper &/or lower) with a carbon fiber style? If so, how do you like it? Please post a picture... Thanks, Rob.
I have. See photos... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kenyon - You have fiber sills, center console, and center controls (HVAC)? Where'd you get the different pieces? -Daniel
