So I have a bianco avus that will be for a January build spec's out at my dealer. As it currently is, I have it in order with the matte black roof, but I am hearing it a pain to take care of. Any owners experiences, I am not contemplating the gloss black roof. Which do you owners with either roof prefer, especially any fellow white colored car owners with the black roof. Thanks!

Matte black is horrible to maintain. Totally different washing/waxing method must be used to maintain it's finish. In addition, studies have shown that the sun will wear matte finishes much quicker. In addition, I agree with what was said on the other thread you posted - the time for matte is quickly drawing to a close. I'd go with the gloss black, not only for maintenance reasons but for resale.

Bottom line is it's your money - get what makes you happy.

RBK will probably catch up with you re is black-on-white.

Matte requires dionized water to wash because any dried deposits/water spots are not removable without marring the finish. Polishing is a no-no because it makes for a smooth spot in the finish. Birds and insects must be removed immediately. Matte is also sun sensitive. If I were you I would order a gloss finish (white or black), save the two-tone money, then wrap the roof. If you go all white, you can wrap the roof in matte or satin black. If you go gloss black, you can wrap the roof in a frosted clear that just makes for a satin finish of the underlying color. Very nice IMO. Either way you are not stuck with it.

I have a white Cali with black gloss roof and just bought (awaiting delivery) an Alfa 4C LE in matte white.
The black gloss roof looks great and is relatively easy to maintain although it was VERY badly finished by Ferrari.
Although a lot of people told me matt could be an issue to maintain I went for it as it is a special colour limited to the car I got.

I spoke to a detailer in London and he told me it's not the easiest to take care of matt paint but it's not so difficult as long as you are ready to spend the time and money for it. If you are prepared to have it professionally detailed and cleaned you won't have any issues I believe.

IMO either go with black gloss or a wrap. It's not worth spending so much paying Ferrari for a matt roof again...IMO.

The painted roof is a bit of a fad in itself IMO.

I personally would go solid color - and wrap the roof if you really like it.

    Its the best of both.

So youre saying if I get gloss black, basically wrap it in a clear wrap so it protects the top and brings out the color?

A good wrap will look very similar to paint - only someone familiar with specifically how the factory handles trim and termination coordination for the paint option would be able to easily tell the difference- i.e. does the factory use matte window trims, where they transition in the gutters, etc.

Here is a red matte wrap.

There is a clear wrap material available that changes the underlying color from gloss to matte or satin. It has a roughish surface. I have seen it only on a BMW M3 done in regular old space gray. I thought it looked great, and I am not a big fan of matte. So you can have your cake and eat it. You may want to look into it.

I have matte paint. Very easy to wash. Just used matte paint wash products. See my other posts about it. All this talk about taking a long time or more money I really don't know where it comes from. Couldn't be easier.

Aesthetically, I think matte black looks better with Avus. The gloss black looks plasticky from a distance and the depth of the gloss overpowers the Avus paint (which like most non-metallic non-pearl whites lacks depth).

From an install standpoint, it is quite hard to wrap the roof with the edges tucked because of the plastic caps on the roof that run along the edges. If you want everything tucked under the edges properly you literally have to cut out the rear quarter windows.

Thus if you are really particular I'd consider getting a gloss black roof and wrap it in satin clear to get the matte effect. That would best hide the seams. Of course that will not be cheap.

Ultimately I just went with the wrap -- I figure the black roof is a bit of a fashion choice and if I get tired of it, it can be pulled.

so after all that you still got that matte wrap? How do you like it? Is it noticeable for the edges or does it pretty much look like a matte paint ?

Black and white looks sexy and bad ass in the same package:) I went with rosso corsa, but black/white was a very close second choice. Matte roof or wrap looks much better than the gloss.

Also, check out this cool interior:
