Anybody know which Maseratis were in the collection that was sold to Evert Louwman in 2006? Just saw some pictures of an A6G 2000 Zagato, a Vignale Spyder, a Tipo 151, a Mistral and some others that were on display in the german museum that apparently hosted many more jewels but closed 7 years ago. What happened to them? All sold at auctions? Any pictures of the Maseratis that were part of the collection? Thanks for your help Dirk
I will have a look in my album. Was there in 2002 and took pictures of all Maseratis. The collection was huge!
peter kaus and i were neighbours in frankfurt when we were both freshly divorced in the early 90's, and we are still good friends. the maseratis and all the other cars are well documented in his book on the collection.i have a copy of it somewhere but you should be able to trace a copy although it was a limited edition. there were some 300 cars in the collection officially and all the important maseratis were represented. we spent a lot of after hours time there and later my three year old son was told to pick his favourite car. he picked the tipo 63 amazingly, climbed in and did not want to get out. still have a picture of this. i don't want to get into insider stories as a matter of discretion. it was a great collection. P
When I met him In Riccione back in 1986 I then followed him on a rally in a Merak with a woman who was driving her boyfriend's Merak - she spoke no english. He was driving his 450S that day but I don't know how long he held on to that car? I think there was conversation with Walter about that car. Shoot him a note.
Thanks for the feedback. Such a shame the collection is lost and the cars not for open display anymore. Never had the chance to visit it even though i am in germany. Tried to track down the book but it is rather hard to find. Found one in france through the web and ordered it. Lets see if it arrives. Also good to know some close friends of Peter Kaus are still out there. Am sure it was amazing hanging out around all those amazing cars. Were some of them frequently used? Which ones did he keep? Such a shame he didnt get support from the cities for his collection. The next generations are truly missing out by not being able to witness such a remarkable heritage. Best Dirk
And yes, if someone has got any pics, please share them. We all love pictures of beautiful cars, dont we?
i just realised only 3000 copies of the book were printed, so it may be a bit tricky to get one. any way this is the list of the maseratis excluding the oscas. and the picture of my son taken in 97. an annoying issue of having the museum was people 'borrowing' things. start drooling. 8C 3000 1932 4CS 1500MM 1934 A6 G 1500 _inin 1949 A6GCS 1953 A6 G2000 GT Zagato 1955 A6 G2000 GT Allemano 1955 300S 1956 A6G/2000 Frua Spider 1956 450S Costin Zagato coupe 1956 450S 1957 250S 1957 3500 GT Touring 1958 60/61 Birdcage 1969 Tip 63 1960 tipo 61 LM 1961 3500 vignale spider 1962 151/1 LM coupe 1964 tipo 65 1963 mistral coupe mistral spider Indy 1972 Ghibli Bora 1973 Khamsin 1976 he kept none of these cars. Thanks for posting this comprehensive list. Hope i'll get to see some pictures if i manage to get the book. Am surprised that the Costin Zagato and the Frua Spyder were also part of the collection among many other important cars. Why did he sell all of them after spending so much time acquiring them? Personal or financial reasons? Just curious but understand if this is too indiscreet. Did he ever regret it?
it's not a maserati, but my lancia stratos came from his collection...i have pictures of it in the museum, before i restored it back to original condition
The A6 1500 (not "G") was #073. It went to a German owner, then a Dutch dealer, had restoration work performed by Lachiara in Italy and is apparently now in England.
Three or four cars were auctioned in 2006 at Gstaad Bonham's Ferrari & Maserati sale. I think to remember the 450S Costin recreation, the Tipo 63 and 61 also... Need to check my photographs from that time. It is a shame the collection was broken into parts. Was fascinating to be there!

LS, The A6G 2000 Allemano GT was purchased at the Gstaad Auction by a good friend of mine. When we started the restoration we thought the car had undergone a load of modifications during its active life up till the moment that we found a bit of the history in the Orsini Zagari bible. With the great help of Mr Orsi we were able to retreive about an inch of copies from communications between the owner and Maserati. The 1st owner had the car built with rallying in mind and had numerous modifications done by Maserati. Reading some of these communications was hilarious! A truly unique two tone example was the result. The present owner went through a great deal of detail to have it restored to the original specs. From the original Jaeger LeCoultre Chronograph that the 1st owner had taken from his Bugatti till the special woven carpet in the trunk. The level of the restoration is very high and the car looks and drives great. The recent pictures of the Maserati factory in the fifties shown in the Maserati threads recently show this unique one off in the factory hall. Ciao, Bart Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really enjoyed visiting the museum twice. It was truly awe inspiring in its quantity and quality of cars. In December 1993 I met Kaus there and after the visit he guided me to the Autobahn in his XJS when we left at the same time. In July 1995 we pulled out the Tipo 151/3 recreation/Phoenix for the photoshoot I did for my article in Sports Car Interrnational (the car that was reworked very extensively, rebodied and is now with Barrie Baxter in the UK). Kaus was already very frustrated with the city not helping, not putting up signs etc... The Khamsin was AM120034, later for sale at Berlinetta Motors in St Ingbert, Germany. Best regards, Marc
hello marc, i remember that racing green XJS very well as it was always parked next to my car. this was no ordinary, sluggish V12 XJS but a Walkinshaw built car with a very whiny manual box. very fast indeed. it was later totalled on the autobahn. was the khamsin blue, as in the book? i seem to remember a silver one as was the ghibli. peter hated the car saying the steering once seized and landed him in a field. i never fully believed him on this. p
i really liked this car when i saw i at maastricht. at the time it was red in a sea of red and got a bit overshadowed by the more flamboyant shapes. was this the regional colour scheme? P
Hello Paul, Yes, the two tone combination of this car in bright red and black is exactly as how it was ordered by the first owner, an American by the name of Cicornel, living in Paris. The chrome strip on the side of the car was the clear marker and unique for this car. Also the somewhat sturdier bumpers and built in fog lights are typical for this car. Ciao, Bart
Hey Wolfi, assume it is the one, some here were able to witness you racing? very nice car. The A6G Allemano is truly beautiful. Wasnt sure about the colour combination at first since i believe it distracts too much from the beautiful shape but always good to see the original state it was delivered it.
Yes, Le Mans Classic 2012. Car will be back this year in its original livery. Regards Pictures copyright "Octane" magazine Wolfi Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Paul, I hope you are well. I did not see the Jag too well because it was dark, we were both in a hurry, there was snow around and I had to get to Stuttgart that evening. I was in my 924 Turbo I had shipped from Florida and when I stopped on the unsalted Autobahn an hour later under heavy snowfall to remove it from my headlights I noticed that no traffic at all was coming on my side...I had the eerie feeling a pile up happened behind me... The Khamsin was dark blue with tan interior 5 speed, smooth nose. I have no data on where that one is now. It is no secret that the German government came after him for taxes (just like they harassed Boris Becker) which is at least one reason why he sold the cars. Best regards, Marc
Hello Marc/Paul.. I think I can say this, "Those mean Germans!! - just kidding, as I am half German (mothers maiden name was Schlageter)... All Governments can be small- minded at times! Wolfi... The 250S is absolutely stunning.. The lines are perfect... This is a stupid question, but is the body the same as the 300S? They look extremely similar to me, but am not certain! Looks like it would be extremely fund to drive!!
