Pretty tough to learn how to wire with your feet, since of course, your arms have been torn off.....
Hi Nick, Wiring is also not my forte. I built and raced 1/10th scale electric RC car since grade 5, that's it. Hopefully engine restart in 2 weeks, exactly one year after we started this project. Wish me luck. Cheers, Taffy
Thanks, now my funny has reached it's zenith, so I'll be dull for a couple of months straight. The wiring really does look phenomenal, and frightening. I think I have all of 25 wires in the Jeep.
I found that Jeep wiring is even worse and more unreliable than Lambo wiring (and that's saying something) Here's a parallel project being done at the same time as the LM , my Jeep J20 is being done in a similar color to the LM , they should look awesome prowling the roads together. The J20 pickup will also be rewired with aircraft circuit breakers, cables and wires. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That J20 with 37in tires will be quite tall Tony, You don't need to make it taller. Most parking garages here are only 210cm tall.
It won't fit in a parking garage anyway , it's 6 metres long , it's for projects and out of town trips mainly.
Want a wagon to pair with it? Mine, unrestored. Gotta go. (sobbing profusely) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another project running parallel 2 months ago was repainting my white E34 M5 Image Unavailable, Please Login

The main advantages of aircraft wiring are 1. corrosion and vibration resistance, much more flexible also for routing large bundles of wire 2. Quality - usually nickel plated copper or (sometimes silver plated copper) with very fine multiple strands 3. High temperature resistance , good for 200 or 300 deg C before smoldering rather than catching fire 4. I've never weighed it but I think there's a significant weight saving , I would guess 30 to 50% 5. For this project it's FREE , I salvage Boeings and we can pull anything from 500 to 5,000kg of wiring out of an aircraft (turboprops to 747s) . Normally I retail it for $10kg to race car and off road vehicle builders and $250 of salvaged wire is enough for most projects, if you purchased new wire it could easily run to $2,000 or $3,000 for materials. We figured if we had to rewire the LM we have lots of material laying around the warehouse which is superior to chunky plastic coated automotive wiring. We also utilized salvaged Klixon and Texas Instruments circuit breakers in Taffy's LM , if you had to buy them new it would be about $6 to $7k Disadvantages It's not color coded so you have to code the wires yourself or do very good diagrams for future maintenance. We're also using mil spec / aviation connectors which requires a connector pin removal and installation tool. It's harder to work with than automotive wire and takes some practice but Indra (the tech) does this in his sleep during his day job. Summary These wires and cables are good for at least 50,000 hours of flying time and when I've pulled down aircraft for salvage the cables are still good after 25 or 30 years. It will last a lifetime in road vehicle. Finally it looks extremely professional and hard core on top of all the practical benefits, if you look at F1 cars most of them are using aviation or mil spec wiring. . I found a good web page that gets into all this , have a read Motorsports ECU Wiring Harness Construction
Forgive me if I'm missing something but how does that work fixing the starter shield to the exhaust studs - don't you get an uneven surface/leak with those tags sandwiched in there? My first post to what is an amazing job - probably a simple explanation too...? Cheers Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mark , it was a trial fit for the brackets, they mount on the stud after the header not sandwiched underneath the header flange Image Unavailable, Please Login
I read in a motorsport brochure some time ago. Typical Race fuse 1amp-30amp is about $150 ... while the same shape and size aviation grade (certified) is about $330 What a difference certification makes
Thanks Jasper! The 1/43 RHD is already here Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't believe that in 3 weeks this project will be 1 year old. Funny I never thought I have the patience to wait this long.
