I guess this one flew under the radar here today, what with all that GTO at auction talk. But it's a video worth viewing: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dFzgsq49R8]Ferrari 312PB Ends an Era With a Bang - YouTube[/ame] What an amazing noise, and what an amazing car. I think these cars get less recognition than they deserve. Very cool indeed. Ferrari 312PB Ends an Era With a Bang | Petrolicious
Thanks for sharing! I love Ferrari sports racers. Great to hear a good clip of the sound, especially at the down shifts. I hope they'll do a video on a 512S or M as well. To me they sound even better.
This vid is always worth posting when PB's are being mentioned. This guy definitely gives the car the recognition it deserves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeUMDY01uUA Down to the noise.
0892, I think. Here are a few from LM 1973. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought these cars never ran at Le Mans because they were basically F1 cars with more bodywork, so would probably be unreliable engine-wise for the whole 24h... Interesting. Thanks for the pics, Ed!
In 1972 they won every race entered. They didn't enter Le Mans (won by Matra that year). Perhaps that's where your assumption came from. In 1973 they did try Le Mans with two cars. One DNFed and one came second (Matra again the winner).
Incredible, the sound that car makes gives me goosebumps. Was lucky enough to see one in SA a few years ago and the sound has always stayed with me, just amazing.
Here are a few photos at Road America during the historic races last year. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ok, this is the 348/355 page but I can´t deny you this one. Ferrari 312PB Ends an Era With a Bang | Petrolicious
Wow, one of my favorite Ferraris of all time. The sound is exquisite, and one cannot argue with its racing record. Thanks for posting this video.
Look up Michael Kaiser's "The Speed Merchants" book or DVD. Great pictures and footage, the "Age of the Gods" really.
The car at Road America is NOT 0892. It is an elaborate replica that was patterned after the original 0892 by John Hadjik for Joe Galdi (when Galdi owned the original 0892). Galdi used this replica in place of the original 0892 for vintage racing, as he didn't want to risk damage to the original 0892.
Three cars indeed at Le Mans 1973: Jacky Ickx / Brian Redman Arturo Merzario / Carlos Pace Tim Schencken / Carlos Reutemann With a "slighlty more better luck", any of the three might have won...but "might" is not sufficient. A advanced version of the 312 PB was actually reworked by Mauro Forghieri for the 1974 endurance season and was already tested during the winter of 1973-74, when a young Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Niki Lauda joined forces to convince Enzo Ferrari that running the Formula One challenge AND the Endurance challenge together was no more feasible, and as a consequence, Ferrari left endurance racing to focus on Formula One. I think Chris Cord had one of these in his garage in Brentwood in the late '70s and he used to take the kids for rides around the neighborhood.
