Hi....... Just a wild thought !!! To eliminate repetitive, costly camshaft belt replacements ! Anyone ever try a "chain conversion" for the camshaft drive on a Boxer ?? Too noisy ?? Not enough room under the OEM covers ?? Could one use the Daytona parts ?? Have fun !! Frank........
Did the conversation just this morning in fact. Had it all done and running by lunch, not sure why Ferrari techs charge so much for this stuff, peice of cake. I used the timing set up from an old ford explorer, and just transferred the parts. Simple..a no brainer really.
Have to admit I've thought about it...or a gear drive set up. First problem would be lubrication and how to contain it. With 2500 cars plus the Testarossas one would think there COULD be a demand (?)
Yea, that was a tough one keeping the oil in the timing covers. I used I think 3 tubes of orange silicone, (sensor safe of course) and it did the trick.. In all seriousness, it's not worth the time and expense. If you have money to burn, and a spate engine around, it would be a fun project just to say you did it.
Oh, great -- then you can have threads about "where do I get replacement tensioner pads" like the 400/412 guys
not long time ago I had contact with an engineer who did a rebuilt from belt to chain on a 308. he told me it works fine but he will do some more modifications and beginning of next year he will make a small production. cost incl. labor about 5000 euro plus tax when I know more I let you know, because I already asked him about BB and TR
Wont the oild leaks and water pump rebuild necessitate a eo after 7 or so years anyway. Chains are heavier more inetria making the vakavetrain more draggy. But yeah I am sure it can be done.
Yes and there will be no performance benefit. Also the cost of the conversion parts alone would exceed the cost of 50 sets of belts and tensioners.
