Frikadelli Racing Team best of VLN: round 5 - Sabine Schmitz | Main gallery | Videos | Motorsport.com Frikadelli Racing Team best of VLN: round 5 - Sabine Schmitz Description Starting from last place in the first starting group, Sabine Schmitz passes nearly everyone to complete lap one in fourth place! Starting on slicks on a damp track. Mind-blowing first lap!
"He" ? This is Sabine Schmitz, a woman! She is the lead driver of the Frikadelli Racing Team, and a Nurburgring expert. In fact, she lives by the track and has raced on it at least 10 times a year for the last 20 years! She races a Porsche Carrera GT3 in the VLN series: an endurance championship on the Nordschleife . She has twice won the Nurburgring 24 hours, but on BMW. The video shows during a 4-hour race, where -starting last on slicks- she overtakes most of the field on the wet during the first lap. The other drivers are, shall we say more cautious, or not so confident. Real road racing ...
he had it right, Sabine is not a woman. The talent is comparable to Dale Earnhardt jr. who some think is an incredible driver.
Recall reading somewhere that she's received thousands of marriage requests from around the world based on her appearances on Top Gear. BHW
Here is she with a Ford van on the ring: Sabine vs Clarkson, part 2/2 (Series 6, Episode 7) - BBC Top Gear A little slower than a Porsche GT3
In one of those weird, "Is that who I think it is?" experiences I was watching one of those trashy reality shows about building log cabins. They were all nervous about the owners coming from Germany to inspect the saloon they had built. In walked Sabine and her partner/spouse. The guys on the show were talking about how she was some hotshot race car driver. Not who I expected to see when watching guys with chainsaws.
She is one of those drivers who spend all year on the Ring and is very able in any car. She is a talented horse rider as well.
So what went wrong during qualifying then? Some of those other drivers looked pathetic ... yes she is very, very good but as with all endurance racing there are drivers and others that just keep the seat warm. Pete
According to a friend who was at that Nurburgring race, there was a technical infraction with Sabine's car in qualifying that relegated her to start at the back of the field. She was also in a much more powerful GT-3 Porsche than most of the field so it explains her meteoric rise through the field at the start. Doesn't take anything away from her ability to hustle a car around a demanding circuit. How she's not doing more top events in the U.S. and across Europe is anyone's guess. BHW
She races for the Frikadelli racing team, owner of the team is her boyfriend Klaus Abbelen. Frikadelli Racing Team
I believe she is still an amateur driver driving for a private team. As far as I know, most of her racing career is at the ring where she lives and where she has business interests. She has a stable and gives horse riding lessons, as well as tutoring at the ring. She has a hotel or guest house at the circuit as well. Occasionally, she is the host on a car programme in Germany. She could have expended her racing career outside Germany, but I guess she wasn't interested...
I didn't know it was top gear, but she was(is?) part of a German show. She has a TON of enthusiasm, makes a good host for sure. http://youtu.be/qeOZL9oGaLg
