According to Maserati Heritage, both the 4.2 and 4.7 models were later identified as “Indy America” in the company’s sales brochures, although this did not exclusively identify US-bound models. Personally, I haven't been able to see any other differences on the America 4200 and 4700 from normal Indy 4200 and 4700 other than the larger centerhub on the steeringwheel on the cars delivered to the US and the badge difference, the America's might have been offered with 15inch Borrani alu's (not Campagnolo Starburst's) rather than the 14" of the 4200\4700. I think that the name America was just added in 1971 to give new life to the 4200 and 4700 while rolling out the top of the range Indy4900. Kind regards Kim
mamamia, all Indys with America badge that I have seen had a different interior and were actually 4,7l models. The dashboard differs significantly from the "two barrel" design of the first Indys and sports an array of dials (temp, tension etc) in the center of the dashboard. The 4,9l has again a different setup of the dashboard. I am not at all sure if this makes all the difference of the Americas. This is just the pattern I have identified from my observation.
