If true, that is super low mileage. No pics of front trunk or engine compartment, but seems clean and correct (except for radio).

Do you have an early Jalpa with the (2) Benditalia/Bonaldi brake boosters, one behind each headlight?

To my knowledge, the later Jalpa's with the single brake booster never had a lock-up issue, only the early cars.

Those boosters are from an 60's era Alfa Romeo and I had mine rebuilt by a shop in California.

You can still purchase the boosters new, but the problem is that the Jalpa uses a metric size brake pipe fitting, whereas some of the boosters utilize a different thread size (see attached photo)

thanx mike!! its a 84' brakes are just very "hard"

…..would replacing master cylinder help??? read the stock cylinder sucks

  12. Check your vacuum lines for leaks first. More than likely Mike is correct & you have bad boosters. Replacing the stock master won't solve the problem.

As EarlyCat says, it is more than likely the boosters. One way you'll know for sure, is crack open one of the bleed nipples on a caliper that is locking up and the brakes should immediately release.

The problem is usually the small spring loaded piston behind the 5-pointed air valve diaphram on the bottom of the booster. It won't realease the pressure and so the brakes think someone is still pressing the pedal.

Once you take the boosters out of the car and start disassembling them, you'll probably find the diaphrams have failed and brake fluid is getting into the air chamber. Just take a look at what mine looked like!

Here is a good exploded diagram of the booster.

The parts in question on my car were #10 & #11. The seal had failed and was allowing the poston to jam.

I decided to send both mine to that place in California. They resleaved it, rebuilt the entire booster with new diaphrams, seals, springs, clips, etc.

After I reinstalled them, never had a problem again.

Its called Power Brake Exchange. They have 2 places in California. I can't remember which one I mailed my units too...

The link is up in my Post #635. For some reason it is just showing as "Home Page", but click on it and it will take you to their website.

Vacuum hose was disconnected from engine for whatever reason (connected it) & we BLED the brake fluid (audi dot4) (brake fluid was dark)

    Brakes now feel good

Yep, for some reason people do that. If not there, they'll also disconnect the vacuum reservoir tank too.
