Is it worth going to the track both Thursday and Friday? Are the events usually all day long? What time should we get there? Any input from someone who's already been there would be appreciated. Also, is the Jet Reception worth it? Is there food? Is the wine included? I see that also has jumped from 195$ to 250$.
has the track day $ stayed pretty much the same...$30-$50? It's been 10 years since I last was at the track.
It's purely personal preference and highly subjective, but this event is the least interesting to me. I went once. That was enough.
Not a ton of cars at the track, but the last time I went there were at least 2 GTOs for instance. Some nice old cars being driven hard and enjoyed, not just polished to death. There will be a run group of vintage Alfas this year I think. In the past there was a run group of vintage Bugattis. Watching those cars slide around on their skinny tires is awesome. For 30 or 50 or even 100 bucks, to me the track day is worth it. No crowds. IIRC the lectures on Thursday are no extra charge and very interesting. In recent times they talked about a 250 LM and also the very first Ferrari raced in the US. Last year it was 375s and Cal Spider. Scott
I went a few times, but it was the same thing and cars year after year. It's not worth it to me since I am not really into vintage autos. It;s nice to see something rare, but at regular car shows in the area you can also sometimes see these cars, or collectors invite people over to see them. Guess we are lucky to be in So Florida where these cars are common. Best comment ever about the price is when Bill T who used to live around Cavallino had a lot of people staying over at his house to get their cars ready for the show. On the day of the show, his young daughter's said that they wanted to go to the show. He replied, I'm not paying $50 a ticket so you can go and look at cars that were in our garage and driveway all week!
The track day has been far more fun IMO over the show (been going for the past 3-4 years).. at $30 vs $200 its an absolute no brainer..
1) is Cavallino , the show , the magazine ,one or both for sale ? I heard a rumor of YES 2) if so is boosting the ticket price a way of showing future owner highest ever take at the gate thereby boost final asking price? 3) i.e. admit 10 at 100 bucks is $1000 admit 7 at 200 bucks (some are thrown off at new price )is $1400 as an example ....AND less crowded ? thoughts Gary Espada 8394 Etype FHC 887465
I have to agree with Rifledriver on all his posts. I have gone to Cavallino the last two years and I find it is the best assembly of quality vintage Ferrari's for one day on the planet. I'm not worried about stroke fests, etc. etc. It is a quality show worth every penny at $100 or $200.00. If the higher price brings in less people this is great since there will be more room to move around the cars and take pictures.
1. About 12 years ago someone in the publishing business told me he was interested in buying it, but I have no idea if it was actually for sale then or if it is for sale now. 2. Probably not. 3. If they cared about controlling the crowd size the number of tickets available would have been limited accordingly. As far as I know that hasn't happened.
Used to be one of my favorite shows and time of year.. Cost is way too expensive and track is way too crowded Wont be attending anymore :-(
I've been mulling this one over. I had my car on the lawn last year and really felt the attendance was strong, actually downright crowded in some places. I'm not surprised for a price increase but doubling the ticket was a little bit of a shocker. Track day has always been my favorite. You get to see some really neat stuff on the track and in the parking corrals, and it is not very crowded, other than the lunch line which was really efficient. I'm deciding on showing my car again. It was a really fun experience and I enjoyed learning from the judges, meeting the other exhibitors and winning Platinum. I'll most likely show again, but still thinking it over.
I want to show the Ferrari I have. Not to be judged, but who would I ship it down to, and how to ship it back. I have in extreme N. Georgia. Not sure about the time table if the car carrier would be there on Monday etc. any thoughts. John Denton
Went several years back, it was 100 per person. Wife thought it was nuts. We were there 1 1/2 hours and that is the price for show in NYC, ball game ect. Not a lot of cars, but lots of significant cars. Not a show I'm interested in attending every year, but it is a great show. I'm a little shocked the Judges are not compensated. With the rise in these cars and what the awards mean to a cars value, I would believe there could lead to some unscrupulous behavior. The difference between Plat and gold is huge or 97.99 vs 100 points. Yes the judges can use the experience for their personal gain, as writers, mechanics appraisers, but it's like any area of the world where an opinion matters and has financial consequences. I know many will cry about integrity, but where $$$ are involved it is proven time over time bad behavior will rear it's ugly head. These shows are a business, why is the most important aspect not compensated. Idiotic. JMO.
I think the price increase without a brief explanation may give someone pause, but its really none of our business. I seriously doubt its to make more money. Charity is a large part of what they do. The fact is last year got a little crowded at times and it could be the breakers, insurers, city officials, etc. that want to limit things. Remember, this is one of the most elite areas in the world and out on an island. Howard Stern bought a house down the street for $50+ million recently. Who knows how many people might/will have shown up this year. Last year it was 3000. What if it was suddenly 5000. This is South Florida. Lots of money here. $100/person is nothing. This is an incredible multi-day event for any car lover, but especially Ferrari lovers. Those complaining about price I wonder how often you go to concerts, games, amusement parks, the theater, etc. This event is only once year and its in its 25th year for a reason. There has to be some sort of crowd control around multimillion dollar cars. $200 per person should do it.
Someone said it best in a previous post. If their motivation was to have it less crowded then they could simply limit the number of tickets issued. Obviously, they can use that as an excuse but the truth is that because it's the 25th anniversary and there's an added buzz and also surely more expenses (I'll give them that), they decided to gouge...
Y'all sound like a bunch of whining socialists! If the grounds were "elbows to a**holes" at $100, it looks like a wise business decision to raise the ticket price. Nobody is twisting your arm to attend. If the gate is less than projected, then you might see a correction in 2017. Until then, pay up or shut up!
Well, first of all, nobody is suggesting that Barnes shouldn't charge as much as he wants. And wouldn't you agree that people should be free to express their opinions about that? But to suggest that an increase in prices without a limit on the number of tickets available is designed to limit attendance is unrealistic. Perhaps they have limited the tickets, I honestly don't know. As someone said above, the event has become kind of stale for some of us who have attended regularly for many years. Frankly I think the Mar-a-Lago event is more fun than Cavallino now.
Haven't really heard anyone whining...we're having a discussion and giving our toughts and opinions about a "Ferrari" event on a "Ferrari" forum. If you don't like the discussions, there are a million other threads on this site. Sorry
Both of you are great people and becoming good friends. My thought is this, what is the point of entering our cars every year? We are a group who meticulously maintain our cars and have correct any deficiencies making our cars 99 - 100 point cars. I am not being arrogant, it is just who we are and what we do, a lot of which personal pride in our cars and a platinum award is nice acknowledgement of that. It may be fun to be a spectator one year, then again it is the 25th, so maybe next year is the one to take the break from, LOL. However, entering your car is a pretty good package deal. In my particular situation, I will not be entering my car this year, I brought it up north this summer and it just is not in the budget to bring it back down for the show. However, I will be there supporting one great 328 crew of last year!! See you soon my Pisanos. DDD
I'm not bringing my 89 328 GTB this Cavallino, but that's because I'm satisfied with my Platino from last year. However, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again!
