I think all 430 owners could benefit from some actual numbers on exhaust manifolds. While the topic is discussed endlessly, there are more questions than answers, especially for those who have the stock MK2 manifolds (How likely are MK2's to fail? Should I proactively replace them with aftermarket headers? etc).

While we have heard MK2's can fail, what we don't know is if this is a relatively rare occurrence, or a more common one. For this reason it would be valuable to hear from as many 430 owners as possible to get a good feel for what is really going on out there.

430 owners, please help by answering the following questions:

    1. Does your car have stock MK1's, MK2's, or aftermarket headers?
    2. How many miles do you currently have?
    3. If you have aftermarket headers, did you install them proactively, or due to a failure of MK2's?
    4. If you did experience an MK2 failure, did it cause any engine damage?

Useful post. Another question of interest might be whether the MK2s were fitted under warranty or at owner's cost. Mine were fitted by previous owner when car was 4 years old, 50% parts cost covered by Ferrari, at main dealer. I understand the situation in the US re warranties on exhausts may be different.

2006 F1 spider. Car came to me with a Tubi exhaust and MK2s at 18,000 miles after the MK1s had been replaced twice. I promptly changed exhaust brackets to Capristo and put another 6,000 miles on the car with no issues. Proactively changed to AP headers last winter. Currently at 26,000 miles.

    1. MK1 just failed.
    2. 15k.
    3. Factory Challenge headers (no precat) just fitted by me.
    4. NA.

As everyone knows? it's not a header issue. It's how the rest of the system is rigidly mounted which causes the header to fail. Which I am now modifying.

    First car - 2006
Original Mk1's failed at 11k/4 years
Replacement Mk2's covered 18k before failing. Capristo brackets were fitted

    Second car - 2008
I collect it later today so will report back. The stock headers are way too restrictive so will be changed regardless.

Congrats on the new car. On your first car, Did the MK2's fail with the Capristo brackets already installed? Or, did you install the Capristo brackets after the failure?

Thank you. With the brackets already installed.

Info on new car: it came from the factory with Mk2's and they failed at 19k/6 years. It's on replacement Mk2's which I will change in due course.

Something else to take into consideration in this post is model year. The exhaust mounting system changed through the years with the early cars having a near solid mount, and later cars having a degree of movement in horizontal and vertical planes.
