What watch are you wearing today?

Wearing an interesting piece today. This day-date was made in 1949. It is 10k yellow gold; the dial and hands are original. Hard to see in this picture, but the hour & minute hands are gold and the date hand is blue steel (very cool). It is either an ETA 900 or 930 movement running at 18,000 beats an hour and keeps great time. It isn't worth much today but having the day, the date, and the sub-second feature all in the same watch made this one a pretty sophisticated piece in its' day.

At Montreal both Kimi ans Vettel will make more than 20 setting changes per lap mostly plus gear changes!

That is totally wild ! My buddies from the fan club were there as well, but I don't think they had this kind if access. I'm shocked they allowed you to take pics considering how anal Ferrari can be with their proprietary *&?%$... That is so cool. Too bad the weather sucked...Nice finish for Vettel though.

Got to spend a few minutes with Jackie Steward after the race. Wonderful gentleman. Very personable. We talked about the race (he felt Hamilton ran a very smart race saving his tires on the 1 stop strategy). Something he felt was always overlooked regarding Hamilton.

Also he is a Rolex brand ambassador and was wearing the new Daytona C (black dial)...so we compared watches.

Bezel is still not ideal and I will continue searching for a higher quality one. This pic makes it look worth than it is for some reason. The left-side steal is not damaged as appears. But there is a rub spot up on the top right part of the insert.

But they are almost impossible to find at this point. Alex was luck to have found this so I jumped on it. I would rather have this original than a service bezel, which mine had.

The rest of the watch I am pleased with at this point.

I hear you. Prices on vintage Rolex watches have gotten pretty crazy over the past few years. And remember that one has a service GMT hand, not the original one. I don't think it'll sell for that but I bet it'll go for 19 to 21.
I'll sell you mine if you're feeling like you need to get rid of some cash.

Dave , my brother wants it so not sure yet. If he doesn't buy it I'm gonna sell it. I'm also working on buying another white gold Daytona too. It seems to be Daytona week in my office. Lol

 

I'll jump on the Daytona bandwagon as well. I found one with a black face that somebody customized with the red hands. I might change it back, but enjoy the look for the moment.

This kind of access is generally who you know (and sometimes who you are).

If you know execs from the race teams, sponsors or guests of sponsors you can gain a greater level of access.

You can write a check for things like a Paddock Club ticket (about $7K per race). That will get a nice lunch, box access above start/finish and a pit lane walk before the race. But that will not get you behind the ropes or a meet and greet with a driver.

As for me personally, as the saying going I could tell you but then I would have to kill you!

Today I went from my youngest vintage watch to my oldest vintage watch. This one is 10kt yellow gold with blue steel hands. It has a Swiss movement but I can't remember which one at the present moment. I really like the Art Deco case. It was made sometime between 1925 and 1928. It runs great for a, roughly, 90 year old watch.
