What do you consider a good price? Is your idea of an investment making money or just not losing money when you decide to sell?

If you are an experienced speculator, you already know the risks and rewards of an opportunistic purchase like the one you seem to have now. The Hagerty website is useful for getting a sense of the current value of these cars, although people say Hagerty lags the market (which could be going up or down).

Conversely, buying a rare exotic on impulse is fraught with hazard. They can look superficially great but still be very expensive to get back into running shape and marketable condition. You need to know what to look for; when to grab a deal and when run away. That you describe the car as a "manual transmission" GTSi tells us something about your experience with the cars.

If you really want it, you should have a knowledgeable professional give you his or her assessment of the condition of the car.

My idea of a good investment is where lose money at a slower rate than I would in a bad investment.

$60 to $85K, as of today.....full owner history, books and tools present and complete, all the normal jazz.

White is not a great color.

    Enjoy your new car.

If it's in good shape, no bad history, you're comfortable with the price, then regardless of the year, and color, it is stil a Ferrari 308.

Read the BaT website, the buyer's fee is 5% with a max of $5k, pretty modest! And only $250 to list your car, very attractive!

    Hi,

Considering buying a #2 308 and the seller has a fallback option to wholesale it to a Ferrari dealer. (Hagerty $89,000)

I'm curious. Any guess what a "wholesale discount" would be?

    10%?

I know this is an open ended question but appreciate any thoughts.

The Bring a trailer auction that ended 1.5 weeks ago fetched a little over $80k with fees. Looked like a decent car.

    http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-ferrari-308-gtsi-qv/

Other not as recent auctions, Steve Matchet's 83' QV got just short of $70k, and some others more recently were right there about $70k (driver level cars). If you go back a page or two in this thread you will see them linked and discussed. Value depends a lot on model year, condition, etc. good luck!

Now, is a 85' gtsi QV more or less valuable than a 84' GTB QV???

I would say the later GTB (all other attributes being equal) would fetch more money as they made a lot less of them at the end of the run. That being said, they made less of them because the GTS was so much more popular, so who knows! The roof line does look pretty amazing with the hard top though! I would say in 10 years the GTB QV will be worth more because of the rareness.

A dealer bought mine and it likely going to do some service, clean up a few things that were on my "to do list" and sit on it for awhile. There are definitely more sellers than buyers right now.

That may very well be so. Nevertheless I think mr. Sheehan' s words could be classified as ehh.., what' s the word, "biased". I understood his feeling of the market is " in line" with his current stock of Ferrari' s ??

Doesn't look too bad, but I notice the valve covers were painted, and shift knob is changed, so it's not quite original. What is the button/knob in the pic of the gauge cluster that looks like it is on top of the steering column? I haven't seen that yet.
