Silverstate is adding a new feature in the May race...a 1 mile shootout on Saturday. The 90 mile course on Sunday. If you haven't run this race...you need to do it! Once you do you won't miss one if you enjoy it as Much as I do! The Gallardo will be there any proud 360 CS owners want take a shot at it??? check it out...... http://www.silverstateclassic.com/
One of the local Ferrari owners took out one of his ZR-1's (twin turboed and producing 743hp at the wheels) to the one mile shootout here in Texas. At the one mile mark, he won by almost a full mile per hour at 193mph. Quite amazing. Interesting that SSC is doing this as well. I think it will be a great addition.
I'd be really curious to see how the 550 does in a standing mile. And I wanna see how Amir's F40 does! Maybe compared side by side to Rick's? --Dan
I am really tempted to come see SilverState. A few people I know should be there. Is it worth the trek? --Dan
Not worth the trip unless you are running in it IMHO. No place to watch cars run unless you are course worker or at the finish line. Unlike other races no excitement there. You really need to actually enter to enjoy the festivities (unless you are going to the two legal brothels in ELY!)
I just took delivery of 550 last month. I've run it in Viper several times 996TT couple of times. This is the perfect 550 Venue so perfect but I want sell 550 ASAP so I'll run the Gallardo pending my inquiries with the race director.
The 550 is light years ahead of say the TR. The Gallardo likewise is light years ahead of the 550 and in addition has a TOTALLY differrent feel to it. Difficult to explain but let's say if you cionsider the 550 a "prize fighter" then The Gallardo is say a "kick boxer"...make any sense? Probably not..unless you have driven them both.
RACE ???? Why don't you all call it a timetrial. Going 190 mph down a public road by yourself ain't racing. Racing is wheel to wheel competion. Even drag racing which is nothing more than a blast down the straight qualifies as racing as it's wheel to wheel. The Silver State Classic is a great event but it ain't racing. As for Allan's oft heard quote about Ferraris bitting like Chihuaus............ .........well you Diablo wouldn't fare much better at the Silver State Classic. Last time I checked the record holder was driving a tube frame Camaro (American Iron at it's finest) that destroyed all Italian and German cars. He average over 205 mph if I remember correctly. Not wheel to wheel to be sure..but it is a race. Someone totalled their twin turbo Porsche and the insurance company definitely considered it a racing event!
Actually, the fastest recorded speed in Open Road Racing is held by a Corvette at 227mph. The Fastest AVERAGE speed of 207+mph is held by a Winston Cup Dodge. As a footnote, The Corvette was 3 mph faster at the speed trap and 3mph faster average at the 30mile check point. The Corvette was stopped due to traffic on the road. Rick
No, It was Chuck Shaffer in Patty Moise's (sp?) Ex Bush Cup Talladaga Chrysler Le Baron. Dave drove Tony Stewart's rookie year Pontiac.
