I honestly don't get the MT craze. I love MT's, but I don't think they are worthy of the huge premium they are asking. Once we are at Scud prices and 458 prices, it doesn't make sense to me. There are plenty of manual drive cars that can provide a great MT driving experience without the premium.

It's rarer, that's all. And that's enough to justify the premium.

    I personally prefer a 430 with F1 trans, btw.

But, the difference is, there are not plenty of modern Ferrari's that can provide a great MT driving experience! And to take it one step further, there are virtually no modern exotics available with a MT anymore.

Just look at how everyone, not just Porsche people, has gone crazy for the new 911r. It has been one of the biggest, well received stories in the car world recently. That car is very similar to the new GT3RS, but because it is a MT people are going crazy for the car. I even saw it recently on the cover of a non car magazine (one of the men's journals).

With the new exotics almost all going turbo and DCT, the cars are becoming more and more refined, quiet, and less engaging to drive despite being super fast. Everything you read about the 911r is about driver involvement. Same for the 430 manual, it is a challenge, you quickly find out how good or bad you are as a driver. The same cannot be said for the 458 or 488.

Also there is the rare component too. Rare in the Ferrari world usually leads to higher values. There are less 430 MT coupes than the 360CS which is considered a pretty rare and collectible car and one of the most coveted modern V8s.

Borderline, possibly true in some counties - certainly not true in the UK but then we like our manuals so still bought them to the end.

It's even more than that. The R is so well-received although it has no aerokit and not even offers one. From my observation those Porsche buyers go nuts even over the plain ducktail, not to mention the aerokit cup.

The 911R comes naked and is still a huge hit.

I think the R noise is more than this ^^

They still do a manual option 911 C2s. ok it's not quite the same car but you'd get to tick most of the boxes. I think because it's made in low numbers (and of course thats its a lightweight) people have just gone mad for it.

Just wonder how many would have sold if they had made a 9000 + production run... Sometimes people want what they cant have or just buy because it's limited.

Tell people they can't have something, and they want it more. Price it higher, and they want it even more. The same story repeats across so many genres, from dating to cars, clothes, real estate, wine, cosmetic surgery, country club memberships, equity investments, restaurants, etc, etc.

Human nature is inherently competive. This, coupled with herd mentality and rose-colored nostalgia, makes it easily manipulated by clever marketing.

I'm assuming the UK probably had the highest % of Manual transmission 430's worldwide for the reasons you mentioned. To clarify, I was referring to total worldwide production of the 430 Manual Coupe vs. the 360 CS (I wasn't including 430 MT Spiders since unlike with the 16M, there are no CS spiders to compare to).

I estimated about 900 total 430 Manual Coupes worldwide which is pretty conservative. This is based on an estimate of 18,000 total 430s with a 50/50 split of Coupes to Spiders (some believe there are more 430 Spiders than Coupes, but I still went with 50/50). This would leave 9000 430 Coupes total. The generally accepted rate of 10% of 430s being manual would leave 900 total 430 Manual Coupes worldwide vs. 1288 total 360 CS. Many argue the rate is less than 10% for Manual 430's, 5% would mean only 450 total 430 Manual Coupes.

In France, only 1% were manual.
The UK and the US had indeed the highest rates (respectively 13 and 10% I believe).

I watched the Mecum auction on TV, this car looked really good on stage. If anyone wants to check it out, the Saturday auction is on YouTube now.

The fact that the car even sold was a compliment to the appreciation of the 430 6 speed Manual. So many cars on Saturday at Mecum were not hitting their reserves. It showed a definite disconnect between how the sellers value their car vs. The buyers. But not on this 430 6MT which sold at a healthy $200,000 (before buyer premium of about 6% I believe).

    I think it's more like 10% - if so, that's a $220K sales price.
