what do you guys think of Bouchon? I went to the one in Beverly Hills and wasn't impressed but I've heard the one in Vegas is better. going to vegas this Friday, so thinking about dinner options. Any recommendations that arent too hard to book? Seems like alot of good off strip options too from reading this thread.
I have been to Bouchon more than a dozen times, going back to its opening. About year four, they ran into a bad slump, slipshod cooking, indifferent service...the place showed some wear as well (2008- 2011 wasn't the greatest for any place). I have been back twice in the past six months or so...service was first rate, cooking back up to par. If you want a prime time table, like 8-9 pm on a holiday weekend this Friday, I'd book. If you go let us know how it went. I'll try off post some off strip reccos as well.
Ended up going to Bardot (Mina restaurant) in Aria, decent spot. We went to Bouchon barkery in the morning since we were in a hurry. They have good pastries there.
Just announced today the first hotel catering to Mainland Chinese tourists is opening up on Dec 3 near Sahara and the strip. Maybe finally some decent authentic Chinese food at reasonable prices. I'll check it out in January.
It has always been a mystery to me why there is a lack of high quality Chinese in LAS, as you say authentic.
I have been to some good ones; STK Too loud music CarneaVino Circus Circus Steakhouse Smith and Lewinsky Gordon Ramsey Steak Tripple George Grill Always looking for a new place.
I tend to avoid Chinatown, too many violations. Here is a link if you're interested. Restaurant Inspections - Southern Nevada Health District
Hello everyone. Janet and I will be back week of October 14th if anybody is interested in meeting for a coffee or cocktail. We're at Bellagio.
Thanks Bob...one of these days we'll met face to face. You'll recall a few years back I saw you when you had your red 458 southbound on the strip one afternoon. Dinners: L'Atelier J.R and Le Cirque; my brother's house. Probably Sage still undecided...open for suggestions.
STK... holy crap you aren't kidding. Went this weekend. I am a young guy and I even liked the music... but jesus... turn it down. I have never once been to a night club and thought... damn... if only I could be eating a 70 dollar steak right here on the dance floor my life would be complete. I have never once been sitting at home and elected to turn the stereo up to wake the entire neighborhood whilst eating a steak. I just don't get it. Steak was... good. Not the best Ive ever had... but can't complain too much it was a pretty good steak
A list (in no particular order). And don't ask me why I know this.... Sapphires (big and noisy. The Superstore of flesh. It used to be a COSTCO) Treasures (classy -- looks like the one in Houston) Spearmint Rhino (small but effective) Crazy horse 3 (nice but loud) B list (these aren't bad just not on the top) Cheetahs (haven't been there in years but I remember it being small -- but not very noise so easy to talk to friends) Larry Flint's Hustler (a little hard to get to. Its two levels and the floor above is glass) Club Paradise (I think it just changed its name). Right next to Hard Rock Hotel. Just reopened from a Credit card scandal so it's on the rebound. C list Palamino (only nude with liquor -- I haven't been there in over 25 years!) Olympic Garden (the old girl is do for a makeover) Glitter Gultch on Fremont Street (closed! The property is being turned into a new Casino from the owner of The D) There's some others without alcohol but why bother... One tip is to call the bigger ones if you have a group and they will send over a free shuttle. The cabbies get between $20 and $30 kick back from the clubs for every drop off. So, they pressure people to go to one club or another. I don't think the shuttle will return you though so you have to jump in a cab. If you drive show them your keys. The admission may be less if you didn't take cab. SEMA though I'm expecting will be pretty packed so don't expect any discounts other than a free shuttle ride if you want it.
I can neither confirm nor deny Bob's analysis is spot on. I'll diverge with him on the full nude clubs, though. Generally, large amounts of alcohol have already been drunk before arriving, so the fact that they're dry isn't too big a deal to a lot of people. Plus, a lot of people (assuming they brought their own mode of transportation in which to store it), just bring their own booze. Mark
I was at spearmint last Thursday for a bachelor party. 6 of us were picked of for free with free entry through there website #. Cabbies and other guys will say they can do it but or just trying to hustle. Talent there is some of best I have seen and depending when your going they are adding 17k sq ft. After it all I would say save your money and rent a big cabana at Marquee pool party, much more fun.
Some may know this but we are very close to approving the stadium for the Raiders. One more step in the state legislature. Passed the first round 16-5. The word from the Buffalo and Dallas owners is the other owners are in favor of authorizing the move in January if the stadium is approved.
Bob. NFL owners that really matter: Mara/Tisch. Kraft, JJ, and Rooney (Blank close behind). Everyone else will fall into place. Coming back out over Xmas
Today it passed and Sandavol will sign on Monday. Honestly this moved at record speed through the government. Davis said he needed an answer in October and he got it. Wynn says he has info that the owners will vote in favor of it. I can't see how this deal can fall apart now. If the NFL forced Davis to stay then they can do the same to any owner. Of course they can but not for this reason. Las Vegas Raiders. Get used to it! I heard today that the street infrastructure to support the stadium will cost a $880 Million, which will also help the 215 interchange to the 15 and the strip.
Some months/years ago a restaurant was recommended on Sahara west of the strip. Something about old mob appeal. We'll be in the area next week and would like try something off the Strip. Thanks
Pamplemousse? It's on EAST Sahara, a couple blocks past Paradise. There's also Ferraro's down by the Hard Rock. Many of these places have lost the vibe. Haven't been to Pamplemousse myself in many years,
