Be safe and stay dry. Hopefully the electric power stays on. I will be putting my F-car up on my lift to stay clear of any flooding.
Mitchell is now forecast to make a hard westerly turn to 270 just south of Lake Okeechobee tomorrow night, and still as a cat 4.
I seriously believe you will loose power at the least - don't wan to doom & gloom but lived in S FL for almost 50 years
Anybody living east of I95 between Miami and Daytona Beach should be ready for just about anything by now.
Exactly what I was going to write, be safe everyone...several of my Fort Lauderdale friends are waiting this out in Houston. Summer 2004 with 4 hurricanes in a row was maddening, that's when there was that cartoon about Florida relocating next to Idaho... MS PS: Jack if you are no longer on Isle of Luci you need to update your Fchat "location"
Nah, just resigned to our fate, whatever it is. There has been no pony in the huge manure pile of hurricane updates. Wish I hadn't just taken delivery of a new car - timing really is everything. Garage is a 1990s era structure, trying to beef it up. Do we end up hiding in our elevator as the house buckles in 130 mph winds, or do we spend 24 hours in the Suburban going nowhere on a gridlocked interstate? Our old bulldog is lazy and likes the elevator, so we may stay put. We're a lot, lot better off than many down here, of course. If we really are getting a direct hit from a Cat 4 storm, it could be terrible for so many people. Hard to imagine what south Florida will look like. Trying to remember why I moved away, at different times, from earthquakes, high taxes, and snowstorms. Best of luck to all.
Sitting here in Port Saint Lucie, Matt will visit late Thursday, early Friday, we will stay up all night and hope for the best.....with luck my 1985 400i will stay dry inside. Gary
Getting ready to evacuate east of A1A. ST John's county issued a mandatory evacuation order for tomorrow morning. Hate to leave my 430 behind. Haven't even put 1,000 miles on it. Hopefully Mathews goes out to sea. Be safe all those affected by the storm. Image Unavailable, Please Login
3 of the 8 spaghetti forecast models now have Matthew turning in a giant clockwise loop near SC and making landfall around Miami early next week. Hope not.
Good luck to everyone. I thought the center would be staying off shore but I didn't think that it would pass to the west of Nassau. If you have power and connection, please post updates.
They have now issued mandatory evacuation for all of eastern St Johns county. My water view home may some become waterfront! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Shuttered and locked up , we and the 2 cats will ride this out across the street with friends/neighbors, power on and still hooked to my wifi, Friday early am will be rough for us. Gary
No one to help get it out? I would pick a high rise garage downtown....and lock the car cover on. Be safe everyone. Mandatory is mandatory, usually. Pick your shelter structures very carefully.
Good luck to our neighbors to the North. It has been a non event here in Broward. Barely any rain and no wind to speak of - so far.
Im far enough west that I shouldn't see the brunt of it, but it's been raining and the wind is picking up. Chance of tornados is the thing that bothers me most. Will keep updates going as it changes. Lots of guys to the east of me are in for a rough time.
although i am not there now my condo is on singer Island about 2 miles north of palm beach and about 3 miles south of Jupiter.. we are the most eastern part of southern florida a small island about 6 mile long and about 1/4 mile wide where i am at.. inter coastal on one side and sits in the sand with the ocean a couple hundred feet from back of building.... best of luck to those of you staying on the coast..keep us posted....
Thanks, Joe! At the moment, in downtown Orlando, rain has been fairly steady, with occasional wind gusts up to 20-30 mph for the past hour. First of periodic heavy rains, from the outer bands started around 5 p.m. Three hurricanes criss-crossed the state in 2004. Lots of streets in my neighborhood became cul-de-sacs from fallen oak trees. The wind twisted the metal beams in billboards near Orlando Executive Airport. It was pretty crazy the morning after the storm, surveying the wind damage. Storm surge in coastal areas from Cocoa Beach to Jacksonville could be upwards of 10 feet. Certainly hope not. How about some reports from coastal FChatters. Did you evacuate?
