For those who remember in the late 90s which track had the higher top and average speed during races? Which tracks had the highest top and average race speeds after those 2? Barcelona and Montreal? About the old Silverstone being a high speed circuit I remember top speeds topping out at just over 300kph in a race, lower and Spain and Canada. And also the speed trap speed is not really the fastest speed that cars attain at a circuit

In 1937, fastest lap during the race at the Avus Rennen: 269,73kph.
In 1974, fastest lap in the 1000kms of Spa practice: Pescarolo at 262,461 kph...

The higher average speed had Monza and I think Monza had the highes speed also. Pizzonia was nearly 370 at Monza Practice in 2004. And Montoya even hit 372 during tests in 2005. Bottas was 378 in Bakku last year.
1970 the F1 was the first time in Hockenheim and they already had the chicane on the two straights back then so I guess it Hockenheim did not have the highest speed neither. Bakku may have the high speed record but Average is just under 200 kph. Mexico had also some +360 kph high speeds last year so it may be in the top 3 of the highest average speed too

I think Monza had the faster ultimate top speed, however in the late Turbo age - Hockenheim was close - cars would touch 200mph several times a lap, In the 90's - Monza again had 200+ mph at least 2x per lap.

Rosberg (Keke) did a 160mph average speed lap at Silverstone in 1985.

Looked pretty quick from what I recall. They slowed the circuit down after that.

Juan-Pablo Montoya's 2005 Monza test of 372,6 Km/h / 231.53 MPH, stands as the Official F1 top speed during testing.

Valtteri Bottas' 2016 Mexico speed of 372,54 Km/h / 231.50 MPH stands as the Official F1 top speed during racing.

Although Valtteri hit 378,035 Km/h / 234.911 MPH during the 2016 European GP, as he was slipstreaming, the FIA does not recognise it as a record.

  8. If I recall, that was back when quali engines and tires were still in use. The race speed was much slower (146 mph).
Now, on the other hand, the 917 that won at the 1000km of Spa, 1971, averaged 154.7 mph for the 600+ miles. I bring this up as the two drivers were F1 pilots, Pedro (Rodriguez) and Jackie (Oliver). ;)
