Effing big mountains off to port would be something you wouldn't come across every day downunder that's for sure
Oh ok, thanks, so is there an audible heads up as well ? I suppose you only worry when you're near Mt Erebus on the way to the antarctic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_New_Zealand_Flight_901 It only seems like yesterday that happened
I did get one pic with the SLR which shows some snow covered peaks poking up above the clouds in the distance, but unfortunately the visibility has been pretty poor overall so hard to get a good view of anything more than about 20 miles away. There is if you get close enough for it to be a problem. In our system anything green is ok, then it goes yellow, then red, and finally a very loud voice yells TERRAIN!! TERRAIN!! PULL UP!! PULL UP!! Pretty standard, I'm guessing.
Wasn't the comment " Its a bit thick out there Burt " a chilling message to listen in on. Then "Go around power please" and there wasn't enough to get over the mountain. Anyway got a bit early in on the celebrating the other night and lost the plot a bit after Mrs I16 got the great news that after two years of chemo and a few months of radiation she was in for some better times ahead! Hope that Steve is going well and can give us an update when he is on the ground soon. Ta.
Feel for ya mate, been there done that . My missus finished chemo 2.5 years ago but still suffers badly for the after effects, she's had a miserable life health-wise ...... I think she was a bad person in a previous life, it's the only reason I can think of that would justify her health track record I think I'll track his flight now
Looking for good news and found this sad news a few minutes ago. US Marine Corps helicopter crew missing off Queensland coast after 'mishap' - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Good to hear, I16. Nice news. Have just set up next to the pool at the hotel in Bali after flying in today from KL. Just a short hop tomorrow to Broome, then Adelaide on Tuesday. All going well. Nearly home! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Moretti was too expensive (and had some rather questionable payment requirements), so we got someone else to clean the aircraft. It was a brilliant adventure. Loads of fun and all went very well. It'll probably take a while for it all to sink in but I've got lots of great pics to look over whilst enjoying a quiet scotch or two in the future. Thanks to you all for the interest and messages of support. A couple of stats from the trip: Total distance flown was 9946nm (18,423km). Flight time 41.2 hours. Nine countries in eight days. The aircraft burnt 14,338 lbs, or around 8,450 litres of fuel. https://www.facebook.com/royalflyingdoctorservice/?hc_ref=ARSSvaCDHbDsZHTX1cW8d_zuNdArkrpvT-M_kYiScRkchkr5q1J-n6hTtkqVDlPOQcA&fref=nf
It's Jet-A1, and I'm not sure what it costs! But that's actually pretty efficient. Moving up to eight people at 500+km/h for that burn is not bad. What would four or five Ferraris go through?
My 308 runs around 13/100 with 2 people so yeah the plane if it gets 40/100 with 8 aboard is actually more efficient! (but you didn't have 8 on that trip did you?)
No I didn't, just as you probably rarely have 2 in your Ferrari. All things considered, the aircraft is very efficient and serves a purpose which should be above lefty rubbish. I'd suggest the PC-12 is probably the most fuel efficient medical aircraft in the world. Compare it to your average rescue helicopter, if you really want to get excited. Or, more to the point, how much does it cost to fly dickheads like Al Gore, SHY etc. all over the world to tell everyone else how to live while burning enough fuel on their own to sustain a small country?
umm, I was just joking Steve! I was just curious how it did compare with a Sports car. And I agree with you re all the spruikers.
Don't see these too often in Adelaide. My guess is it was unloading all the diesel generators we'll need to keep the power on in summer while we're saving the planet...
