Can someone verify that this is a 1961? Any other info on this particular car? (note left hand drive) Seen at "Caffeine & Carburetors" New Canaan, CT (not my video) with sound
Is it one of the Jim Rose/Les Monk replicants based on a 330 GT? It looks wrong enough to be! 5333? 6481? There were others too.
I wonder how many "experts" commenting this car being a "fake" reported the thread to mods it being misplaced.
Thinking about it TRI 0780 may well have had the 1960 body "modified" rather than rebodied to 1961 spec, first at the rear then at the front with the nose.
I will check my Joel Finn book later and advise what he thought happened. My understanding it was scrapped, despite the claims it was later in Australia, which was likely a replica.
I'd already read the Finn book. He mentioned the Australia story but couldn't confirm. He said that of the stories the most believable thing that happened to 0782 was that it was kept as a test car, sold in Italy, rebodied to a coupe and later to a 250P like shape. Again, nothing confirmed.
Approx. a decade ago, a certain Ferrari historian advised me that he had concluded that #0782TR no longer existed and I see no reason to question him but no longer have the emails he sent me so can't advise more than that BUT why would Ferrari update #0780TR to TR61 form and not #0782TR? I mean they sold the TR59s and TR60s but not #0782TR. Further, lets not forget that #0780TR is popularly theorised to have been canibalised to build #0808TR in late 1961/ early 1962 and speculation persists that #0808 was actually an entirely new car and that #0780TR has been lying dormant somewhere as covered here and elsewhere. That said I seem to recall that the supposed chassis from #0780 was in the US North East and had been supplied to one of Chinetti's partners back in the day but that could be me confusing the car with another. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/250-testa-rossa-60-or-61.120023/ Interesting stuff and likely always destined to be debated by people for decades to come (ala #3673SA or #0846 and dozens more)
I realize I'm late to the party, but the TR59 replica in post #1 is based on 250 GTE chassis 4045 GT and has been on offer through Carriage House Motor Cars in Greenwich since January. https://www.carriagehousemotorcars.com/1961-ferrari-testa-rossa--c-316.htm
