I live in a nice area where there is 1 tesla in one out of every 3 driveways.
I always liked what he was doing but.......
Jaguar,Lexus,VW,BMW ANDall the rest will have their own all electric within 24 months and GASOLINE will be an OPTION!
I don't see how he can keep it going , they don't have the cash.....
Maybe if Ford wakes up before going completely bankrupt, offer the kid 100 billion and have a template to take over!
Yes I think Tesla is done as well.
The new Jag I pace is nice.........

Although I don't agree with the current valuation, Tesla has something no other company does just yet - DATA.
As the automobile evolves into an advertising machine on wheels, they still have an enormous head start.

I agree and since we are older, I would cut a deal to get out, but that testosterone is still raging in him. He has gotten a little tired and ooopsie today a 2 billion dollars lawsuit.
    He will learn.....

Has Tesla turned a corner? Car maker is $9.5bn in debt, burns $6,500 a minute but production finally ramps up

    2 May 2018

Elon Musk’s Tesla shocked stock markets last night as revenues jumped ahead of expectations.

Shares in the electric car maker surged by 3 per cent in after hours trading as it revealed sales of $3.4billion (£2.5billion) in the first three months of the year. Analysts had expected sales of $3.28billion (£2.4billion) for the first quarter.

Losses were also lower than expected at $3.35 per share as opposed to $3.58. Net losses were $709.6million (£578million) in total.

Tesla produced 2,270 of its flagship Model 3 cars per week, with the company saying that it would be back in the black if it could reach 5,000. It believes it should do this by the middle of this year.

In its best-ever quarter for orders, Tesla ended the first quarter with reservations for the Model 3 exceeding 450,000.

Musk said: ‘Model 3 is already the best-selling electric vehicle and, more importantly, on the cusp of becoming the best-selling premium sedan in the US. The path to an electrified revolution is not easy, but what we’re trying to achieve is worth fighting for.’

It came amid mounting speculation that Tesla may have to raise more cash because of its $9.5 billion (£7.3billion) debt pile and the cost of ongoing production delays.

But Tesla said it will reduce its capital expenditure from $3.4 billion to $3billion for the year.

The results come after a tough period for the firm, which has struggled to get the Model 3 off the production lines quickly enough.

It is the first car made by Tesla to be aimed at the mass market, with a starting price of $35,000 (£26,000), and is crucial to the company becoming profitable.

But production has lagged behind target. Musk originally claimed Tesla would be producing 5,000 of the vehicles each week by the end of last year – when in reality it has only just reached 2,270.

Musk has blamed the delays on ‘production bottlenecks’ and last month even started sleeping at the company’s factory in California to keep an eye on manufacturing.

Overall Tesla said it made 34,494 cars in the first quarter.

This included 9,766 Model 3s and 24,728 of the more expensive Model S and Model X vehicles.

I agree, If FORD woke up, by the kid out and use the Tesla platform for the next 100 years.
VW owns everything, Jag has the middle East backing them with Land Rover as well.
They have GAGILLIONS and GAGILLIONS of dollars.
    IMHO F2002 your right.

Those might hurt the Model S and X sales, but they won't do anything to touch the Model 3 or the upcoming Model Y sales. In addition by the time they actually hit the market it is likely the S will see a major redesign.

I'm sure he will sell plenty of cars But the big question would be can he prove profitability doing it ?
If he is still losing money with head to head competition how can Tesla survive for long ? I mean
right now is the Goldilocks period of no financial comparisons are being made with others

Its funny you brought that up as one of the head engineers over there just left who was also a head of the FORD GT program........
Fisker makes a good looking car but like Tesla, they need real money, like MIDDLE EAST cash........
Chapter 11 for Tesla and if someone was listening to the GTJOEY call......Ford buy the kid out........
I'm not even charging a fee for the advice before they go the same route....
I LOVE THE NEW I PACE JAG, I never thought I would say it with a McLaren 720in the barn but with many patches of oil
on the floor from Model TT to 66 vettes and EVERYTHING in between, I want a NON gasoline, antifreeze, tranny fluid, powersteering fluid, water fluid, rear axle fluid
and all the rest, just get me 600 miles to a charge and we are done.
    P.S THATS IN TWO YEARS.
After that beam me up Scotty I don't even want to drive anymore....

What I think all of you are missing is they will probably only be one major car company per country in 25 years. When major metro areas go strictly autonomous, no one will care about the brand name of the pod that picks them up. Because only the lowest cost producer will survive, this will thin the herd. Lacking jingoism, logic would say that company will be Toyota. Of course, no major company will allow that, so one car company per country. This same company will make trucks and other cars for suburban and rural areas, but the big cities will be only one brand of vehicle, a la Southwest Airlines only flying 737s.

Ps I certainly hope we are not using lithium batteries in 25 years.

I have a hard time embracing that notion based on 1) the household appliance market 2) the cell phone market , and many others.

Let's say Uber wins the market for anonymous cars in LA. Why would they buy different brands of Pods? BTW, if the Pods are powered by something other than hydrocarbons, they should have a useful life of say 20 years?

    Freudian slip there? :)
I'm not sure Uber can/will 'win the LA market'.....what makes you think current auto mfrs., and other competitors are just going to roll over and allow that?

Competitive market. Somebody is going to be the lowest cost Pod producer. The consumer is not going to care who made the Pod.

I have a different take I think Uber will vanish because like everything else you'll be ordering your ride through either
Alexa, Siri or Google assistant no need for anyone in between. Plus you'll have your choice of different type of pods
Merc BMW for luxury Ford GM Honda for basic

I don't think you get my point. Uber, nuber or suber, it doesn't matter. All the end user will care about is a Pod showing up on time and working. The manufacturer of the Pod will be irrelevant. Who cares? I'm going to get in and put on my virtual reality goggles and watch porn. This means the winner will be the lowest cost producer. Right now, if I had to bet, I'd bet on Toyota.

I get your point but I disagree with the cheapest pod serves all theory - IMO folks will want different experiences while riding
and VR will be one but not limited to it. Don't forget each manufacturer has massive engineering departments each one will
develop unique solutions which will be patented Hence in my humble opinion it won't be down to a single manufacturer - Let's wait and see

Millennials already see cars as appliances. As long as they can get onto whatever they spend all their time, they're not going to call about the nameplate.

Texas forever is correct , follow the GTJOEY bouncing ball once again..........
Adolf Hitler died ONLY 80 years ago......
"VW" HAS NOW CONQUERED THE AUTO INDUSTRY over the last 80 years with out firing one bullet or taking over a country or WORSE......
By the third quarter of 2019, VW will PAY and INSTALL charging stations at EVERY , Kmart, Costco and Price club in America.
Of course being a club member you will pay a reduced 30 cents on the dollar to recharge......WHILE SHOPPING AT THE STORES above.
You don't think that they will have the new VW or THEIR bmw ,bentley or others for sale at the box stores?
SHARED RIDES at the box store?
    Leasing at THE BOX stores?
There wont be one company but 5 would be too much in the modern world.
Maserati , Aston , Tesla will all be gone, unless rebranded under one of the five......
It could be more but I think you get the point.
The HISTORY of the 20th century automobile has been closed.
The rest of the 21st century it will become a dishwasher or dryer.....with the exception of uber rich.
Ive said this before, some people still own polo ponies.......we will be the modern version of that with our Ferraris, Astons or Jags.
    Make sense?

Who still goes to these stores? I get everything but refrigerated goods delivered now. The only place I go in my car is work, dry cleaners, grocery store(not often), the doctor, and restaurants.
