So I was talking to a fried today that has a 99F1, he had the same issue that I had forgotten about. His started a few hundred miles after his last engine out. After multiple trips back to the shop that did the work, he ended up taking it to the dealer. They discovered a pinched F1 wire causing the issue. Fixed and never had the issue since. May be something to look into.

Thanks, I'll pass that on as it is still with the dealer. It repaired itself on the way in only to break on my first trip getting it back, on the motorway at 70mph. Lovely. Just watched the speedo plummet. No change in the engine, nothing else apparent.

Drove home, and thankfully it remained broken for the technician to take a look. They found a badly soldered wire, but repairing that didn't fix it. It apparently stops working when warmed up to a certain point, and then stops for the rest of the day - at least that's what they're finding.

Now they've ordered a sender to try that!

I'll be very happy if it fixes it though! The trick seems to be making it reproducible, once they can see the problem they can fix it. (Sounds obvious :)

    Cheers,

    I wish :)

No codes pertaining to the issue - plenty showing that I'd "stalled" it into 4th and above, but none to do with the speedo not working.

Had same issue when the engine mount collapsed. The computer never expected to be disconnected, so never recorded that error.

I used a open/boxed end wrench maybe even an adjustable wrench, you only need to break it loose. It will spin out by hand after that.
