Alas, it was. Kirby Fong’s new (to him) FF was one of the cars..... Ugh. I’m still waiting to hear from him......
So sorry to hear about the accident. I don’t know Kirby but have always admired his work. Sounds like he got rear ended and was transported to the hospital. Hopefully he is ok. The car can be replaced but it is very sad given all of the work that was recently put into it.
He’s in the hospital with broken bones and a punctured lung, but thankfully, nothing life threatening. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2018/05/11/multi-vehicle-injury-accident-blocks-eastbound-san-mateo-bridge/. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
And for those of you who just “assume” they were racing or driving recklessly, shame on you. The Ferrari was at a complete stop and so was the GT-R, waiting for traffic to get moving. The third vehicle, a white commercial van, barreled into both cars at 50 mph. So yes, there was reckless driving, but not by either sports car. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
If you wish to send cards, flowers, or other expressions of care, Kirby is recovering at the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley
Get well soon, Kirby! The number of rear end collisions seems to be on the rise. I have no idea what happened here, but I was rear-ended on 101 by a texting Lyft driver, and my teenager was rear ended at a stop sign, all during the same week. Both times a screen was too blame. I hope the hospital stay is not too long.
Kirby get well soon.....given the safety of modern cars those seem like a very serious injuries for amount of damage on the car. How safe is the FF?
Clearly the most important thing here is that Kirby, and everyone else involved, makes a full recovery. We need to see more of his great work posted on here, even though there will be no new photos of this FF. The thread title though is "458 crash on San Mateo Bridge". When I saw the picture this morning I could not work out, even with the rear-end damage, how it could be a 458. Should the thread title be changed to correctly reflect the fact that it was an FF not a 458? This may bring the story to more people's attention, and stop friends/family of 458 owners being concerned.
Best wishes for a quick and complete recovery. My wife and I were victim of a similar incident. Fully stopped, let a UPS van cross in front to cross into a side street, was about to get the thank you wave when the UPS guy's eyes lit up. Two seconds later my 750 was two feet shorter. A twenty something kid, texting, driving his girlfriends father's car and not carrying his license. Idiot. Thank heaven the BMW was a tank. Kirby's car is a total but it looks like from what information we heard it did the job in keeping his injuries to a lesser amount.
I hate these idiots who text while driving with a passion, they should ALL be executed on the side of the road with no judge or jury. That would teach 'em......
Hi Everyone I want to say thank you for all the love and support. I’m doing well. Surgery last Monday for my flailed ribs went well. I’m resting, recovering and trying to control all the pain. Some days are better than others. The FF did it’s job and saved my life. I’m sad it’s gone. In the short time that I had it I loved it. I don’t have a computer at the moment. Laptop was destroyed in the accident. Once I can get in front of a computer I can start posting normally again. Thank you again, I’m humbled by the support, Kirby
