No side-marker light on the fender, either. 1201?!
Side markers did not appear on the fenders until the 1981 model year. Perhaps it's a last 50 signature edition and would be nice to know the chassis #. It would not be the only one of the last 50 1979s with less than 100 miles. . I believe the first US 930 VIN for the 85 mph speedometer change was 0848. The "effective date" for the regulation was 9/1/1979. Image Unavailable, Please Login
thanks 930. good to know i have the correct speedo in my 79. .so if you had an 85 mph speedo and were running lets say at 130, would the speedo just peg at 85 or would it in fact start to go around a 2nd time? (honestly officer it said i was doing 15 mph
Never seen that either. Pretty sure you need that mirror as there is a big ole whale tail right over your shoulder.
. Passanger side mirror was optional on all 930's into the mid-80's. For the '79 MY US 930's it begain as a $95 option and increased later in the run to $110. Seldom see a '78 or '79 without one but they do exist. Here are non-optioned mirror NA and RoW 930's from a 1978 Porsche Sales Brochure. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is the window sticker from my former ‘79 and there it is exactly as you stated at $95. Lol, nothing costs $95. at Porsche anymore...maybe a screw? Or a nut? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Apologies if this has already been discussed. I have VIN 9309800107 (09/1978 build). Tool kit roll is brown. I have seen many black ones. Is brown correct for this production date? Here are photos. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
. Yes, I believe VIN 9309800107 would have been delivered with one of last brown tool rolls before they became black. However, your pictures of the tool roll appear rather dark in color. .
Yes, I need to take new photos, it is definitely brown. Good to know it is correct. Here is a shot with tools, missing some pieces but "Mang" is helping me on that front. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are two complete tool kits from 1979. The tool kits varied throughout the year. Some were brown. Some had gray snaps. I have seen them mostly with two red tags on the outside, red and yellow tag, single red tag, single blue tag, single yellow tag and no tag. The interior of the bags also varied as seen in attached kits. The very very late '79's had one or two additional tools that was added in 1980 kits. Tim, Congratulations on a tastefully done restoration. Your 2nd Build Type North American MY '79 930 is quite an interesting color. I like the contrast between the exterior and interior themes. The early 3.3's are special cars that will never be duplicated and are a noteworthy piece of Porsche history. Bud .
Thanks, Bud...I'm really proud of the job Wes has done...his attention to detail is just superb! Yes, I couldn't agree more...these are very special cars that deserve this kind of attention. It still boggles my mind that next year this 930 will be 40 years old. I'm just glad I could turn back the clock on her. The color(s)...now...are one of my favorite aspects of the car. When I first got her I toyed with the idea of changing it, but was fortunately talked out of that foolishness. She's a 1 of 1 so that makes her even more special. It was just hard to envision originally how nice the plantation white/brown leather/black trim would look when complete. When I saw it outside in the natural light, I was just mesmerized at how good the contrast looks. It is quintessential 1970's! Tim
Thanks...sometimes the saying is true..."pictures really don't do it justice." I take no credit, of course...that all belongs to the guy who did the work ...I just wrote the checks, ha!
You have the nicest 79 930 on the planet. Amazing color combination. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Thanks...she appreciates the compliment ;-). It was a long, long 4.5 year restoration journey, but I guess looking back now it was completely worth it.
