    The goal of testing is to test and to test certain parts or software you don’t necessarily drive to set fastest lap time’s.

    I second that. Mercedes were testing a new front wing. New cutouts on the vertical elements(2) closest to the nose. So was Ferrari.

    We don't know fuel loads. For all we know Ferrari carried 40 kilos of fuel more than Mercedes when they set their respective times. Or vice versa.
