What gives them away Joe? I noticed the rather agricultural looking bumper on the back.

Can you explain what makes you feel it´s a LP400 S3?

Didn’t they go to the rounder, later style front wheel arches with the so-called series 3 LP400S?
I always thought those cars basically looked like the 5000S?
They say it’s an ‘81 in the article???

    Indeed, and mouse-hair dash.

That and a 1981-manufactured car as this one is, will be an LP400S S3.

As I mentioned, a number of LP400S S3 were badged "5000", reasons for which you can draw your own conclusions.

The factory went to the rounder lower spats, but as you know component changes from one variant to another @ the Sant Agata factory never occurred exactly at the point of the new variant, indeed I'm aware of unmodified LP400S S3 with the deeper lower spats.

LP400S S3 have a number of differences inside the cockpit and engine bay that belie the 4-liter variant immediately, they are quite different from an LP500S.

Long story short - this is an LP400S.

Since I am being asked about it, the Blu Acapulco Countach LP400S S1 restoration project I had under Private Treaty which I posted on very recently https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/146125189/ has now sold to an astute buyer within @ 48 hrs from offering.

Bravo Mike, and nice to see you refrained from adding a bull badge to the rear panel, as early LP500S should not have them

    Mike,

I have already planned the logistics for your Monterey trip.

If you set off after breakfast @ 8am from SLC, I reckon you can get to Monterey by mid-afternoon, tuck the car away, take a short nap, freshen up, and be ready to go out for a nice dinner on the Wharf that evening.

Of course, I'm assuming you'll cover the @ 835 miles using an average speed of @ 120 mph including short bursts up to @ 175 mph where possible crossing northern Nevada, and, I'm allowing for 3 fuel splash-and-go stops in Battle Mountain NV, Reno NV, and Sacramento CA respectively. Then it's a quick squirt the last couple hundred miles down to Monterey.

Please remember to affix a Go Pro and post pics afterwards

A quarter Cannonball... That (might) be the only way. Still no confirmation from my usual trucker.
