I shot this video a couple days ago while visiting the incredible new Abarth Sports Dept. We are the first group to visit this place and it was very interesting. We could not take photos behind the walls, but trust me it was a great visit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2v0uMB9OX8 Below is one of the photos taken with a very rare one of 4 racing cars. In order to get the car out of Africa they had to cut the car in half and fly it out in a small Cesna airplane. Export rules at the time were very tough. Tomorrow we visit Maserati Modena which is rumored to be shut down next year, so this could be the last group to visit the Factory. Very sad. very cool did the 'Car Guy Tour' several yrs ago for me & my wife, it was the trip of a lifetime without a doubt Frank Mandarano does an awesome job at getting into the right places Recommend it highly!!!!
It was already a forgone conclusion that the CEO of Fiat had decided to move ALL Maserati production to Turin. The Modena unions then stepped in and said, not so fast, we may have something say here. So the settlement is still ongoing, but the end is near as the factory is just too small for the kind of production that is needed to keep the doors open. It is a sad end to a great and historic factory. I am just happy that I have, over the last 40 years, been able to visit here so often as I have. From Modena, typing this from room 232 at the Canalgrande Hotel at 5PM. Off to aperitif on the patio Ciao, FGM
This is the biggest cars and parts swap meet in Modena and the next biggest next to Padova held next month. I was lucky to be in Modena with my Car Guy Tour on the same weekend. So I jumped into Santiago DeTomaso's car and we went out to the convention center and spent some time looking around. It was such a great show that I am going back tomorrow. All the guys were there including Franco Tralli, Candini, Andrea Maieli and his wife. He is the number 1 go to guy for Maserati Classic leather. I ordered 7 skins for my Vignale Spyder. I saw Tonino Lamborghini and Christian Gatti and my very good friend Mario Rhigini who was wearing his 5 year old Car Guy Tour jacket. What a surprise! Here are some photos. 20th? I've always considered the 86 trip as the inspiration for this and thus the 1st? We had one hell of a time back then Frank.
