Hello everyone! I looking into my first F car and came across a 2016 Cali T HS at a dealer. Its Rosso California/black with approx 5500 miles. When I asked for the options among them was listed "press car". I'm not exactly sure what that means. The car is heavy on CF options but lacking basic options such as memory/heated seats, upgraded sound etc. It priced around 170k.

Worth looking into or avoid? I'm coming from a 2017 911 GTS.

    Thanks,

"Press Car" means that the car has been driven by a long series of testers/auto journalists who had no financial skin in the game and drove the car hard. It wasn't broken in properly and wasn't warmed up properly before being used hard.. It is like buying a rental car that was rented by car enthusiasts who wanted to see what it could do. It should sell for a big discount. If you buy it,make sure that you have factory warranty coverage.

They are asking 172k and the warranty is good thru 7/19. I'm not sure that's enough to take a chance on a car with that type of history.
    Thanks

Ask for an extension of warranty as part of your deal (or discount) these cars can take a good hard drive and be fine just make sure you test and let them do a free service etc. And as was mentioned, negotiate for a good price that comes with the risk.

Any thoughts on what a good price would be on this car?

I was the guy looking at the PRSS car selling in Florida. It is a California Blu with Cuoio interrior (nice two tone steering wheel). They already discounted that car again, in the last week, to $172k. It’s interesting that these cars are hitting the market at the same time with roughly the same mileage. I was told by the dealer in FL that this car was built for an executive but I just find that hard to believe, so I talked with someone associated with Ferrari North America and they told me that Ferrari doesn’t give cars to executives for extended use. I hate it when car dealers behave like car dealers, if they were honest with me I would still not have bought this car, but would have considered them for future purchases, but now I will not.

The carfax is revealing for these cars. The FL car had a suspension service (see above about driving the cars hard) in Michigan. Ferrari NA is in New Jersey, so I am confident that the PRSS option is In fact used to denote press and media cars that are used for media events. I really didn’t want to opent that can of worms and certainly not for a car that was selling basically at market rate. The never-been-titled aspect is an interesting aspect of the pre-owned purchase but you have to balance that out with the fact that the build sheet will follow the car through its life and it is clearly identified as a “press car”.

As for features, there really isn’t anything special on the car. The option package is certainly rich, no manufacturer is going to give a bare bones car to a journalist. I’m sure the media cars are regularly detailed but that also has risk if the paint is repeatedly corrected it will decrease the thickness and have long term implications.

The dealer told me the car was used at "press and media events". The car fax has nothing on it other than it being sold by the current dealer.
Thanks for the advice. It looks like I'll pass on the car.

The carbon fiber interior pieces are really nice. I was surprised to find that not many of the cars I looked at had the carbon fiber interior and when I found the car I ultimately purchased, it did not have this and I thought about passing but the other aspects were strong.

The $180k car you included in the list has one of the best option packages I have seen on a California T.

Thanks, the Wide World car is actually the press car I'm considering! I love the color and all the CF. I actually saw the car at a show over the weekend. It was covered in that clear bra plastic. Had it on the door edges, fuel filler and other weird places. It doesn't bother me too much since the car still has plenty of warranty but I am concerned about the impact it would have on resale. I've never bought a car, only leased so any issues with title and history concern me.

World Wide is a solid dealer. I bought a car from them, would buy another.
