Maybe to prevent burns, if you run over someone.

The large rear valence was added for the US spec'd models so to cover the high-heat generating catalytic converters.

It is an easy DIY project to replace these, in the name of a cleaner look. Here's what I did.

When I replaced my exhaust with the Mille Miglia, I had it modified slightly to fit correctly in the old wire mesh guard/screen. (1977 GTB) So it looks like the original, but you see a little glint of stainless steel. I like it much better than just the naked exhaust. BTW, the measuring and calculating and welding to get that thing to fit perfectly was not for the faint of heart. But it turned out really nice.

Just my opinion, but I don't really like the diaper thing. I really like the raw clean design of the early 308. It got a little tempered as time went on until it became a 328. Not that there's anything wrong with that... ;)

When I put my Tubi on I left it off.

I put it back on about ten years later. It looks more "308" to me with it on I guess.

The valence in my picture was a DIY of my own design.

I started with a simple flat piece of 1/4" thick aluminum sheet, free-handed the exhaust and oval cut-outs, backed it with some aluminum perf (held to the backside with JB Weld), and finally painted it spatter textured satin black.

The yellow picture's design (above) looks a bit more bulky than mine.

    Thanks - DM

Impressed with your bravery to park underneath overhead storage racks. I'm always on the lookout for Mr. Murphy.
