I am having a big problem with my 458 Italia, when I start up the engine it works perfectly after 15 min of driving when i gets so hot the even gears (2, 4, 6 and R) stop working, only the odd gears work (1,3,5,7).
    I couldn't find any solution

My 458 was doing the same thing. Dealer had to replace the gearbox.

Had same exact issue on my '13 Cali. After two trips to the dealer I was told it was a 'relay'. They fixed it and its been fine since then. I was originally worried the transmission was shot but that was obviously not the case. Hope yours is a simple fix like mine was. Best.

I will check the 'relay' first before changing the gearbox!!
Which 'relay' do I need to change? How can I access it??

    Thank you for your help

Not entirely sure which 'relay', dealer said that and problem went away......perhaps I should have probed deeper but didn't as car was perfect after that. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Maybe dealer will know what it means....good luck!

What year is your 458? Is this happening to common year model or non-specific?

It is 2012 Italia, and I don't know if this is happening to common year model or to all dual clutch transmission.. but it is very upsetting :/ my technician can't solve it, and my car has been sitting for 2 months

It seems that most likely your gearbox needs to be replaced. U gotta bring it to your dealer.

I hope you purchased your Ferrari with a warranty. I really do.

2012 458 should still be under warranty (3years/unlimited miles), so hopefully you dont pay for a new gearbox. I feel your pain about the 2 months wait, i had the same problem with a 2012 lamborghini. It was disappointing to see a car sit for so long without any resolution.

Best of luck, and please keep us posted with any updates.

Is there a tech bulletin for the failure of the transmission? It seems like it has occurred a few times.

No, there is not, the factory will not reveal faults …

It has happened to many 10's and 11's'are you sure you have '12 ?

First report here in that case ….

Two months ? Get the car to the dealer asap! And let us know the diagnose and solution please.

    Good Luck ...

This sure sounds like a shaft speed sensor failure, common on all Ferrari’s 2010 - 2013 but more prevalent on the California. There are several threads about this in the California section and I suspect that there are a number of small issues that were unknown that cause more heat to be present in the gearbox and it contributes to early sensor failure.

Of course it’s less common on the 458 but not unheard of. Depending on your location your dealer may have a tech trained to open the gearbox and replace the sensors. It’s a whole lot cheaper then a gearbox replacement, by around 2/3rds the cost.
