I just checked out the pictures. When you look at it note that the upper dash is in very bad condition but it appears they have a replacement in the front trunk. Have they installed that yet or expect the new owner to? Theres 8hrs of labor. What is underneath the upholstery dash cover? More damage? Carpets look pretty dirty but thats somewhat common. Get receipt for what was done in the recent $20k major service. At $105k to me that car is a good buy if it has no stories and you want a white/brown model.
The dash would be replaced by the new owner. A mechanic I talked to guesstimated it to be a $2500 job. I guess it’s a big pain in the butt. This guy is a very fair guy pricewise so I’m guessing he is pretty close on his figure. There is a new dash in the trunk but of course no guarantee that it actually fits perfectly. As far as the carpet, supposedly it has a new carpet kit in it. So the carpet should actually look pretty good. Always hard to tell from pictures. Westcoaster saw it in person he could probably give better feedback on that topic.
For anyone buying this car, insist to have the dash done prior to the deal. A bad tech can do a lot of damage removing and reinstalling the dash. Ask me how I know
I agree. I'm always leery of uninstalled replacement parts unless they are actually OEM and brand new for that specific model year, and even then, I'd ask the seller to perform the work.
Hey guys.... update coming soon. My day to follow up on the white TR was sunday- but the dealer was closed. Hoping to have a closer look in the next week or two Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
'88 TR, 39,000 miles. Last belt change at 33,000 miles, clutch and transmission rebuid at 34,000 miles. Goofy inserts in the wheels. When I see goofy mods it is usally a red flag for me. But I still think this is low price. Sold yesterday for $64,400 with premium. Nat, where are you??? https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/25219/lot/270/ .....At 33,000 miles, the belts, coolant hoses, spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and fluids were all changed. Also, the valves received an adjustment. A mere thousand miles later, the transmission was rebuilt and had a new clutch installed by a marque specialist in Sothern California. It is also reported that the fluids were changed again a couple hundred miles ago and the front air dam was repainted. The car will be provided with its books, tools, embossed luggage set with velour covers and a performance exhaust. The current odometer reading is under 39,200 miles, and the car recently passed the stringent California state smog test.....

if trs are going down on prices than that means 328 308 355s all across board will follow time will tell
I don’t think they’re going down. Good/decent cars pull good/decent prices right now. This one above was described as 3+. That’s not a good car and I don’t think selling it in the winter time helps. If anything, I think all is just stable. Not much up. Not much down. Delta’s exist obviously for truly bad examples, and truly exceptional ones.
For the past two years Nat and I have both been (very correctly) calling for lower prices. Based on data such as the Ferrari market letter, Timmys monthly sales piece , Hagerty’s, and all of the many auctions, we have been spot on in our assumptions. I can’t speak for Nat, but this is a call that I had made for all collectorsports cars. It had nothing to do with the just the testarossa per se, but that the overall sports car market has been in a correction mode since mid 2015. Porsches and many other collectibles have seen the same correction. I’ve seen it in the air cooled Porsche’s that I’ve owned as well. Of course there’s always the “one off “ cars, certain Lambo’s for example, that have defied this trend. But there are not many of these one off examples. Having said all of this, I now believe that we are very close to a bottom on these cars at this point. Nice serviced TR’s can be bought for 100 grand. My suspicion says if these things keep falling it probably won’t be more than five or 10% from where we are now. But, and this is a big but ( insert joke here!), I don’t believe prices are going significantly higher over the next two or three years either. That’s just not how markets tend to work. After a big blow off like we had from 2012 through 2015 markets tend to correct.... and then just trade “sideways” for a couple years after the correction. That’s what I’m guessing will happen with these cars. Especially if your car is under a “1 condition”. Those cars will always command a premium and are the first to re-bound when the market comes back. Anything that is a two or lower probably won’t see 2016 price levels for quite some time. So, in summary, Nat and I were proven correct that prices would continue to come down over these past two years . I now personally believe that we are within 5 to 10% of a bottom. I then think these cars trade sideways, maybe up 10% at best over the next three years. From there, who the hell knows ??? So just enjoy your cars! If I had more garage space I would own one
if the 328s and 355s drop more i will get one of each ,hard part is finding the right ferrari condition and so on lots of ones needing alot of work
Sorry everyone I’m in the Bahamas enjoying life The way I see it is you have several type of cars for sale: 1-the highly price time capsule 2-the highly price consigned car that will never sell such as that Merlin TR for 200k LOL 3-the highly priced TR sold by dealers that can afford not to sell at any price and just want foot traffic 4-Then u have the overpriced car that will go down and every now and then u see the prices come down on autotrader and/or the car ends up on BAT. 5-Finally you have the steals such as that 85k classiche during auction week in Scottsdale I shall go back enjoying the beach Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
https://sanfranciscosportscars.com/vehicles/793/1988-ferrari-testarossa White on white TR with rare black dash. Service done, apparently had a minor accident, need proper wheels and painted skirts, service done, sold by a very reputable dealer in SF.89k; I think 85k gets it,14k miles. White car above strikes me as the deal parnelli’s been looking for. Check out the minor accident to see what the damage is, if the paint is bad have it corrected while re-painting the side sills and splitter. Interior looks very good, extremely low miles given the price. That the dealer did the major means little to me other than that your belts wont snap. As we’ve seen on the forum, its unlikely that dealers who perform the major prior to a sale do all of the fuel lines, timing, bearings etc etc too. Likely some of those items, but doubtful the same as a shop that charge $7500 for the service. The wheels can be replaced with aftermarket replacementsr shop around for OEM. I cant tell if its a single lug car or not. If so, even better.
shows what a tr thats under 100k looks like, aftermarket wheels, body panels been repainted.and who knows what mecanical stuff needed if someone is not looking for a perfect tr this is a buy the color combo itself is a rare find.might be a great deal and might not be if hidden things under hood.i agree with nat prices are soft all over the boards for alot of exotics
