Kinda curious, how long before TR’s are at the point where full restorations, nut/bolt type stuff, are being performed and commanding a value worthy of the time involved?

We all know there’s no guarentee it'll ever happen. I assume it will be a function of value of pristine units versus abundance of junkers/candidates. The more the middle of the road cars move to one end or the other of the spectrum then the more profitable a restoration effort, right?

Anyway just thinking out loud. Maybe 20yrs from now?

The reason why they will not get a full restore :

    1) too many cars made therefore, more cost effective to part out
    2) to expensive to restore vs finding a good one still
    3) better built than the boxer, therefore would last longer
    4) not special enough in the market to salvage and restore
    5) too expensive to restore vs rarity of model

There will come a day when people will restore them just as people started restoring 308's and now thats not uncommon. When I decided to restore my 79 GTB in the early 2000's I didn't get a warm response and even heard a comment that I was "restoring the wrong car". I was also told I would never get the money and there was one particular person on ebay when I listed it that insisted on messaging me to tell me I would get 50 cents on the dollar and no more. I saved that sellers ebay name and made a point of messaging him now and then quite some time after the sale just to remind him he was wrong. I took great pleasure in that. Of the 308's Ive restored the common denominator is they wanted it because they wanted it, not as an investment but because they could afford to do it and wanted a "new" 308. They've been enjoying them ever since.

I'm the lucky owner of that little yellow jewel. In fact today I'm resurrecting it from it's winter snooze. It's a great restoration that has well passed the tests of use and time.

You are in la la land .....

The kids of today will Uber, and the millennium kids could care less and barely going to car shows. The people that liked your post not one of is in the age bracket to restore a tr when time comes.

If there was a time I hope you are right, but I don’t think so.

Time will tell ..... im waiting for the 75k boxer. It’s coming :)

I will agree, times are changing. However, there are a lot of us left who still want that poster car. I dont think boxers will be a 75k car anytime soon.

I think out of all the population in the world, There will some people left who will always love automobiles!
Answer this? Why do people pay millions for WWII war birds? Expensive to maintain and fuel, and not practical at all!
    Someone will always want them!

But the world aspires to all things cool...

Slightly different then cars. More people can identify with the history and influance warbirds had on our freedom and the sacrafice of those who flew them. The history they represent is far greater then any race car could ever hope to attain.

There are a lot of enthusiasts out there. Millions I would say. The hobby is safe for a little while yet. However, 30 years down the line? Who knows.

Yes that is very true. But ask some young people today and they don't even know or CARE anything about history. And why this country is as free as it is!

Younger generations always annoy the older generations. I’m sure they’ll grow up eventually too at some point. I’m certainly not worried about millenials not being into cars. A quick look at Youtube suggests just the opposite.
