My 1970 246 sn is 1216. Is there a way to find out what the original color was?
Ferrari will tell you. Classiche will look it up and send a confirmation letter, when I did it, it cost $350. Someone here might know too, but the letter and factory confirmation is nice to have.

In my opinion Rosso Bordeaux is a beautiful colour and goes well with the beige interior, I returned mine back to original and don't regret the colour combination for one second. Tony

Marcel you are a gentleman! I wonder if your data files go back as late as to the L-series. I have never been able to establish the exact information on the drive train on my #0504 (Engine + gearbox)? Any info would be very appreciated. Best regards Peter
00504: Original exterior color: Bianco Polo 20-W-152. Original interior color: Blu 135-Pelle Nuvola VM 3015. Engine type 135 CS, internal #73 L. Fiat #000.5272. Gearbox type 607 L, internal #226. Delivered new to official Swiss importer SAVAF (Société Anonyme pour la Vente des Automobiles Ferrari), domiciled in Geneva, Switzerland. Marcel all of us greatly appreciate your generosity and contributions not only to this forum but to all of Fchat. It has taken decades of diligent work to build your archives, sharing it so readily is an incredible gift to us all. Sincere thanks to you sir.
Thanks Marcel much appreciated, Indeed the chassis number is 00504 as you correctly mention. My bad. The information corresponds with the actual numbers on my car except from the engine number (See pictures). The engine in my car is number 0005298 and this number points to another car with very similar chassis number. I suspect that there could have been some confusion in the factory records, alternatively the engine must have been swabbed at some point in life, but not the gearbox. Quite strange and possible not something I ever get the the full story of. 00504: Engine #000.5298 corresponds to chassis #00544, a Giallo Fly 20-Y-191/Nero 161 Dino 246 GT delivered new thru Crepaldi Automobili in Milan to first owner Giuseppe Pasquetti. Marcel Massini
Correct Marcel....I tried to contact the believed owner of this car (#00544) a few years ago but never succeeded.....Number #00504 and #00544....easy to mix up records and why is the gearbox not swabbed. Also If you trace gearbox numbers on other L-series close to mine you will notice that gearbox 226 might not be the most logical box for my car as well...- Best Peter
The ONLY logic to apply is that there is/was NO logic at all. Do not search for logic, especially not for stuff that happened 50 years ago. Modern standards and expectations are different but of no use. They just took what was available on the shelf on that specific day. In 1969 nobody even thought that these cars would still survive half a century later and that they could potentially be of value. Gearbox number logic? 00428 = 200. 00432 = 202. 00458 = 210. 00546 = 227. 00576 = 195. 00616 = 306. And on and on. ZERO logic. Marcel Massini
Hi Marcel, I would love to know any details you may have on my car. Owned by me for 41 years this year.
