I'm contemplating powder-coating the ball-polished Challenge-Style wheels on my 430 to black. The shop wants to charge me $275 per wheel. Is this reasonable or can I do better?

By the way, should I powder-coat them in the first place? The exterior is Rosso Corsa.

Depending on where you live, you can definitely do better than that.

A local shop here in Houston will do it for $130/wheel for a basic color like black. They have sales all the time that drop it to $99/wheel so for 275, that's a bit high.

Did you tell them it was a Ferrari wheel? If so, that may be why!

Mine are powder coated gunmetal grey, and I love it. Maybe consider that, for better wheel definition?

Can't really help with the price. I paid 1 overall price for the wheels and to have them coated.

Personal preference. IMO, black looks like those temporary wheels that people are embarrassed to drive on, so they get their silver colored wheels fixed asap in order to remove the ugly black spare wheel (donut)

Can you post pics of the gun metal? I also have ( and love) ball polished, but have wondered about changing at some point

First, I would do whatever you like, it’s your car after all.

I’ve had a few cars with black wheels, I’ve always gone semi gloss or gloss, as the matte starts to look really dull over time.

Regarding the price, it depends if that includes mounting and balancing after the refinishing.

You always get what you pay for in my opinion
