Michael came back for three years to build the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team into a champion team like the Ferrari team he left.. Unfortunatly it didn’t happen. It wasn’t until Lewis came to Mercedes..... it was Lewis who transformed and grew Mercedes into the 5 time F1 championship team it is today. Every team is built around a lead driver and when Lewis came to Mercedes in 2014, the team started winning driver and constructor championships. If you give Michael credit for leading Ferrari to one championship after another, you have to give Lewis the same credit for leading Mercedes over the last 6 years.

 

It's all subjective....different drivers, different cars, different circuits, different regulations, and different circumstances.

One of these guys posts up something about Ferrari’s number one enemy on a ferrari forum, and then wonders why the groundswell of opinion posted is negative to the ******** propaganda? Yeah, either it has to be complete naivety, or something lacking in comprehension, if it’s expected that there would be any other outcome than a row between tifosi and Elton fan girls

 

I’d be more inclined to believe this if it were in any way true. Elton is not known in the paddock as a car developer. Far from it, he needs constant coaching (to the point the FIA stepped in with rules to curb it) while he is driving. He has on numerous occasions crashed or retired due to his inability to change his driving style or to understand what adjustments are possible from the wheel.

Nico Rosberg was the link from original concept to the winning car. Michael wanted to retire, had done his three years hard work, and Nico had learnt more about the car and how to develop at the foot of the master, improving as a driver at the same time. Elton was bought in as a marquee signing to drive. He wasn’t bought for his lack of development skills, Christ, how often has he been fined by the team for turning up and missing sessions, how often does he do testing? Not a lot, that’s because he’s as dumb as a box of rocks, but he is fast.

Elton couldn’t develop a picture, nor a decent opinion, let alone know where to start developing a car. What a joke.... gotta hand it to you, FUNNY post if it weren’t so factually incorrect

What parts? Red bull even got some wins in otherwise barren seasons where Elton retired due to brake issues while Rosberg made it to the end, or at least much further into GPS, with the very same issues. When has anyone ever praised Elton, or shown any positive interest, in his development skills? Never

You guys take things so personally, I added that he was fast, not one of us would claim otherwise, but his weaknesses are as important to this particular debate as his strengths, and in this case, his weakness is lack of development ability. His mechanics and the team as a whole guide the development of the car, luckily, these days with limited testing, it’s not as much of an issue as it once was. Back in Schumi’s day, Schumi turned up at Fiorano and drove for days on end developing the car, that was the way it was done, and as such, it is well known that his input was as important as that of any of the team. These days, Elton turns up and drives at GP weekends, and more often than not, the testing is undertaken by bottles or the test drivers, not him. There’s a reason for that - he isn’t good at the requirements for engineering input that others are - but he can drive fast if the car is right. These are facts, not character assassinations

 

To be honest, with the ban on unlimited testing, I am not quite sure a driver can still have a significant role in developing a car.

The Mercedes was the class of the field at the day of its first roll out in the hybrid era, in the second the drivers sat in it for the very first time... how one can say that it is Rosberg/Hamilton making it a winner unless they secretly designed the power unit over the winter is simply unlogical.
