Welcome CRDILL - I run the GTE Register and we have been tracking GTEs since the early 1980s. I have a little information on this cars history and may be able to help you plan a restoration. We also have a quarterly newsletter on GTEs that I highly recommend you check out. You, your family member or anyone else contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to talking to you guys!
As long as we are updating this thread, I now estimate that there are 411 complete GTEs remaining and 24 with a non-original Ferrari engine. I know of 182 that have been converted to replica GTOs, Cal Spyders, SWBs and the like. Keep letting me know of GTEs that you spot so we can continue to expand the GTE community. Tom Wilson

That number is incredible. I thought it was around 150, but still. Utterly bonkers. Original-bodied 250 GTE now rarer than a 275 GTB variant. -Ed
My first ever ride in any Ferrari was in a 250GTE near Stuttgart in the early 80's. It was owned by an Englishman living there who was a famous orchestra conductor, Munich philharmonic IIRC. He gave lessons to the children of a family which always invited me to their estate for the easter holidays, here is a photo of it, would love to know if he still has it or where it is. That was quite a day, I was about 16 and had just finished assembling a large 275GTB plastic model and brought it to show him. He gave us a nice ride in that car, a special memory. The mother of the family then drove us to the Lais Power Ferrari agency south of Stuttgart (in Esslingen I think) and basically ordered the salesman to give me a brochure, which, totally surprised and discombobulated by her, he did! Unfortunately I discovered only a month ago the original colour Grigio Notte. Instead to change it as I did from red to dark blue end of the 80’s. I never loved gte in red. But I would love to see it in grey one day !
So, can we say 4501 had three different colors: Grigio Notte/Rosso, then Rosso/Rosso, then Blu Scuro/Rosso? Fred.
Yes, you can say that. Now I hope new owner kept Rosso with his new paint ! ( and it was not Blu Scuro but close) Plus de détails en MP si tu veux !
Waouuuu ! I cannot recognize it. Apparently still french registered. After the blue and the grey I upload a red photo of that car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Marcel ! To be honest, not original, but I prefer in blue. If the new owner is on the forum I still got bits of the car.
