Magneride in 2009 California

How long do these Magneride shock absorbers usually last?
My Magnerides shock absorbers are all wet on the arms and bushings wit leaks. They are expensive to replace. I wonder if this is unusual or most California goes thru broken Magneride at stage if not earlier like wear and tear on a car?
