That is correct, yes. May 16, 1985, 55717 was sold new through Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. to first owner John Graham Foulston, born on the 27th June 1947, resident in Dunsfold, Surrey, England, owner of Atlantic Computer Leasing Company and also the Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Caldwell Park, and Snetterton racing circuits in England. Then re-registered on British plates, "B 150 NPK". Foulston sold the 288 GTO before October 1986. September 29, 1987 Foulston was killed while testing his vintage 1970 Offy‑powered McLaren M15 Indycar on the Silverstone circuit. He was 40 years old. Marcel Massini
Sold at Christies auction November 1998, £139,000. And I bet at the time people would said the new owner paid too much !!
Those are French-spec lights, I can't speak to whether this car was delivered this way, but it's in Japan.
Earlier that morning... The car was later part of the 'supercar display' Chantilly must be one of the best venues to have a concours. Settings are superb. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice video. I always found it odd why some like to criticize David Lee. He’s a great guy who loves Ferrari and shares his passion and his cars with as many people as possible.
FWIW the lead static image of the GTO as posted for the video with headlights open is not David's GTO, it is actually GTO 53289, and was taken by my son Sterling when we had it, this is the same GTO which I lent to Jerry Seinfeld for his Comedians In Cars TV show. Minor detail.
Kool pic taken at Assistenza Clienti in Viale Trento Trieste in the city of Modena. Sadly this historic building was sold shortly thereafter and a public car park building constructed instead. Piece of Ferrari history gone. Marcel Massini
That's a wonderful Jean Francois Marchet picture, taken in 1985, that will be at page 136 of the English edition of my book "Ferrari - the turbo eight cylinders (1982-1989)" . It features the Garage Ferrari test driver Giuseppe Montorsi going out the Garage for a test ride on a 288 GTO. Special thanks to monsieur Jean Francois Marchet that gave me the high rez version of this 288 GTO picture (and others of the period featuring the GTO): one of the 288 GTO best pictures I have ever seen, as that service point "Garage Ferrari" was the Scuderia Ferrari Headquarters building since 1929. Special thanks to signor Federico Canovi who also himself was a Ferrari mechanic at Garage Ferrari and told me who was the driver: his old friend Giuseppe Montorsi who now is waiting for the book to put it on his library. It will be available within October. The building was demolished in 1987, only two years later. but I saw it many times here in Modena before. Replaced by an ugly public parking building. Fortunately the public parking building will be demoslished soon. Hope it will be replaced by something Ferrari related. Alberto, hopefully you are in time to correct the typo on the caption to Mr. Marchet's picture. Should say "the driver" instead of "thew driver".
Thanks a lot for the info: I'm still debugging it from typos and so on. I hope the process will be completed within the end of the month. But the book is complete (was completed just Yesterday!) Ciao PS Please remember me to pay you a pizza when you will be here in Modena to visit Ferrari factory…
