F1 simply needs to devolve to its roots. Put the teams in charge of the whole ball of wax. Every 3 months the "Presidency of FIA" changes from one team chief to another...by random draw. Keep the number of races down to 15 total. Only drivers who really want to drive and will risk their all should be hired on a race by race basis. And those drivers should be sleeping in old VW vans and eating cold pizza and stale donuts for breakfast. All the grid girls should be professional hookers and be expected to offer the drivers pleasure after the race. Only two types of tires...hard and soft. No rain tires...just guts. No issues of cheating since there will be few if any rules...formula libre. But yes...ONE basic rule...the cars must run on gasoline and use as much of it as possible.

I would say that compared to many sports, F1 drivers are underpaid, even the top ones.

There is probably more money to be earned in tennis, golf, baseball, football (US), soccer, basketball than in F1, I think.

And it's mostly the sponsors that offer inflated retainers, not the teams themselves.

Yup, cause I'm sure as hell not paying Sky the £40-50 a month they want to access F1. (Mind you this was a Bernie stick up from his time.) But as a result we don't/cant get F1 TV here!

As usual these days, common sense seems to becoming extinct!

It’s only £10 a month extra on the standard subscription isn’t it? I have Sky everything anyway, so I added f1 and it didn’t seem to make a big difference to the bill. Mind you, to have everything bar the porn, I pay £122pm for four boxes

I don’t have Sky nor want it; so at £40/50 a month; last time I checked, is way to much and narrow minded in my view as I have no other option!

It’s £50 for a ticket on Friday practise!!

Anyway, more importantly, who on earth would actually pay for porn these days????

Proof that nobody listen to Liberty's intention to reduce costs in F1: Ferrari has just announced that they are going to increase their budget for 2019 !!!

It's a bit of a slap in the face for Chase Carey, and to me, another indication that no one takes him seriously.

There must be some, there are loads of free view samplers at 12midnight for the porn channels..... god knows who buys though.

I didn’t realise sky started so high, I though it was something like £15 with a phone line, and then £10 to add F1. Shows how much notice I take I guess... it helps they have NEVER EVER sent me an actual monthly bill, they just ransack the bank account every month, and having checked it, it’s now £126pm I’m paying! Villians, they should be wearing stripey jumpers, then again, bastards at EDF energy screwed up my bill, and where I was paying £200pm for electricity, for the next six months, it’s gone up to £320pm...... nearly fell off the chair when I had that email!

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/144611/difficult-to-imagine-new-f1-manufacturers

McLaren Formula 1 team principal Andreas Seidl says it is "pretty difficult to imagine" any new entry investing the money currently required to be successful in the championship.

F1 is pursuing prospective teams and engine manufacturers, with Honda the only supplier to join since the V6 turbo-hybrid engine rules were introduced in 2014.

Resource restrictions are a major part of F1's planned rules overhaul for 2021 but the engines will not be simplified to the extent first suggested.

Seidl, who worked at Porsche before joining McLaren this year, believes the technical aspects of the next set of engine rules will need to "make the next step of hybridisation" but also reduce costs.

"But in order to be attractive as a sport for a manufacturer to enter again, I think it's also very very important to make sure you can enter this sport with an investment which is a lot smaller compared to what you have to do now," said Seidl.

"If you want to enter this category at the moment, then the investment you have to do for the infrastructure, and the budget you have to use in order to get to the point where the established manufacturers are, you have to be realistic.

"It is pretty difficult to imagine that anyone would invest that money at the moment."

Porsche built and tested an engine that would have been compatible for F1 and formed the basis of a 2021 entry had it committed to joining.

Ex-LMP1 head Seidl would not comment on that Porsche project but said that "in general it's very difficult for a new engine manufacturer to come in".

This is why I think also that from '21 onwards it makes sense at the moment to really keep the regulations as they are," he added.

"We see at the moment already that with keeping the regulations stable all the powertrains are coming closer together.

"We simply have to wait for the next cycle of the regulations and see how the automotive industry is going, to see if there is any chance to create interest for another manufacturer to come into this sport."

F1's current quartet of engine manufacturers - Mercedes, Ferrari, Honda and Renault - lobbied for the current engine to retain the MGU-H, which was initially going to be scrapped to try to make the engines less complex and tempt a new entrant.

"I would try not to upset the four that are there at the moment, to find ourselves down to two, one of them being new," said Red Bull's chief engineer Paul Monaghan on how the next set of engine rules should be framed.

"A complete clean sheet of paper rather negates all the work that they've currently done.

"You don't want the new rules to be intimidating to anybody else wanting to come in, so you clearly have to strike a compromise somewhere and where that lies I wouldn't want to comment."

I gather that with all the hard work done, it wouldn't make sense to throw it all away and start from scratch.

F1 will stay hybrid 'til 2030 maybe, and then ... merge with FE perhaps?

The “uncertainty” is enough for potential entrants to hesitate certainly. Seidel makes note of what the manufacturers will be producing. He understands the strategic tie to market.

There's no point blaming Liberty for anything. I think they did a good job in going online/social media, something bernie refused to embrace.

The whole fault of the current crap condition of F1 lies with the FIA and it's stupid rules.

They have done some extension to Social Media. They are not doing well with new circuits. Losing potentially good ones and replacing or focusing on street circuits. The reflection of the auto industry move to E is affecing the identity and brings vague-ness to a clear vision of the future for F1.

Maybe we just have to accept that F1 as we knew it ended a few years ago, and that this farce we have to endure currently is different, Formula 1.0 or something. I don’t like the rubbish we have, but I can’t see them having the balls to go back to the spectacular with NA engines and no fuel limits, multiple tyre suppliers and allowing testing, because they are terrified of the greenies and pc crowd. They don’t have to be, far from it, but they are, so in 2021, I expect f1 to resemble its former self even less, and of course, every car will be mandated to include the letters AMG in their team names for marketing purposes, and have the three pointed star on their engine covers. Hahahahahahahha

Going back is not on the cards in any aspect of life.
The sooner we accept that, the better it will be.
