Quite frankly it annoys me when you post lumen Dato pics. You might not know this by my watch posts but I have fairly weak self control when it comes to buying mechanical watches I obsess over, and the lumen is one such watch that continues to tempt me - particularly when I come across photos of it to remind me how much I like them! An interesting point about the Datographs in general as well as the one I have. Originally I was going to buy a pink gold version because of the accolades about that particular Lange made by Philippe Dufour. Upon reading further I found out Philippe actually wanted and preferred the platinum with black dial version, but it was outside of his budget so he went with pink gold and black dial instead. So in a sense the classic Dufourgraph case isn't what Philippe actually viewed as the quintessential version of the Datograph as much as it was the one that fit his budget. Because of that I ultimately chose to buy the platinum version. And it turns out the particular watch I bought has an earlier case number than I've ever been able to find records of - predating the 1999 release year with a very early '98 production number. Kind of cool to have one of the earliest production Lange Datos as they're such an integral a part of watch making history now.
That is a VERY cool history of your watch! I've personally always preferred the rose gold/black dial Dato, but the Lumen may have made me a platinum convert. I love them both, but the rose gold/black dial is far less intimidating to wear days at a time, given relative price points. Enjoy yours in good health.......and stop being a hater! Lol

Very interesting. Off to google to look this one up. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
My 11 year old loves watches. He’s been eyeing a cheap battery run hunk of junk at the drug store for a year. Instead, I’m thinking of starting him on a Vostok, but I’ve never had one. Is that a good place to begin or is there another cheaper good mechanical for him?
I’m a big fan of Seiko divers. Might be a bit too big for an 11yo, but they are very durable and they have a cult following. Seiko 5 is a bit smaller at 36mm, but they aren’t really water proof. You could also try a true vintage piece on eBay. Lots of $50-$100 mechanical watches.
