Made a new photograph of our car[ATTACH]
So I finally finished a detail that has bugging me for years. When I bought the car the previous owner had a leak in the coolant header tank (which is common) and replaced it. Trouble was it was replaced with a tank that was not quite OEM in finish. It is now finally been put right and after sampling 6 or so radiator coolant stickers I can honesty say my engine is now 100% factory OEM. From this.. to this. Thanks, yes very happy with it. Took two attempts. The first was too shiny, like a semi gloss rather than a satin black. Second time he got it spot on. My painter used this paint code.. that's all the info I have I'm sorry. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I contacted Rocksauto in Canada. They were kind enough to sell me a few from their personal stock. They are restorers so they had them made for their own restorations rather than to sell. FYI. The green dot you will find on most replacement header tanks but since it didn't come out of the factory with one, it was not going back on.
I'm always amazed to see German as the second language right after Italian on the sticker. Generally it's try-and-error achieving the correct shine by mixing gloss and matte paint with different percentages. Currently I am trying the same to evaluate the correct mixing ratio for repainting my bumpers. Best from Germany Martin
Great work Mark! Engine looks clean and original but I’m not sure about he stencil on the air filter housing cover on the 328, Seems like there’s something missing words on the cover unlike the one on the QV, can someone confirm?
My local paint seller reckons anything between 30% and 50% is satin. I can vouch that 25% definitely looks matt.
The car has travelled 18,000 km with one owner for 90% of its life who I know. Air filter housing is original from the factory and thankfully in very good condition. Never needed to repaint/ repair. Here is the 328 engine page from 308-328.com as reference. Image Unavailable, Please Login And here is a 105km time capsule car I use as a reference against my car, both 1989's.
Yes the header tank is a hard one to get right- not quite matt as it has a slight satin sheen but not too glossy either. Also the colour will change a fraction with the heat of the tank and as it ages it tends to go a bit flatter. Good luck with your bumpers buddy.
A quick google search for 328 engine pictures shows, that most look like yours. Though there are a few with the additional UFI text. Maybe a topic for our historians. Best from Germany Martin
Image Unavailable, Please Login Maybe certain 328 has the Ufi lettering and some don’t. Besides eyeman1234 post, here’s another one
Yes, most of the earlier 328’s have the UFI branding on the top next to the Ferrari logo. The later ones have the UFI branding on the front side of the air filter housing which is harder to see. If you like when I get home later I can take a photo.
Bit hard to see but here's where the UFI branding is on late model 328's filter housing. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly; the switching point between the "early" design with UFI lettering, and late design without it is "bracketed", but not yet fully defined (which would be: the first car with the new lettering was chassis xxxxx). Rgds
I drove it. I got up early as we have a freak cool down so temps were in the high 60's so I drove aimlessly fro45 minutes before work. Man that's nice. Lester
I had the oil changed, I had the steering column lowered, and I had a 2" Hill Engineering (50MM) steering wheel spacer installed. What a difference! The steering wheel is now in a near ideal position and distance for my arms. When I straighten out my arms, the bottom of my palms is just over the top of the steering wheel. I may need to raise the steering column back up just a tiny bit, but its pretty close to perfect.
