To build a car by relentless testing is something drivers don’t due under today’s rules...and unless your driver is a Software Engineer, drivers are not writing code that run today’s F1 cars. So the myth that Schumer is better then Lewis is like arguing that No one is as good as Juan Fangio because he risked his life every time he drove compared to today’s safer cars. Rules change the sport changes, need a carburetor expert recently?... and ever new era produces a new champion.

Love for MS is fine but Lewis has destroyed his record for number of poles so I find Lewis to be a better driver by that measure vs the MS developed his car/team point. (You can love Ferrari, hate MB, and still admit the truth that Lewis is the best driver of this decade.)

Not recognising that Hamilton is the best driver of this present era (for the last 5 years ), is just like ignoring the elephant in a room.
It's not being a Hamilton fan or a sycophant to just quote irrefutable facts; the stats speak for themselves.

Why is testing and helping Ross Brawn build a winning team the only requirement to be great? Truth is it's not. Hamilton beat Alonso and placed 2nd in his rookie year, in a car he never had the luxury of testing to match his driving style, like Shumi did. And he won championship the following year. No other driver has done this, this warrants him being great alone. To me, winning in a car you did not test to suite your driving is more impressive than some one winning in a car they tirelessly tested to fit there style

When he came from Australia and was recruited by John Cooper to race in his team, eventually reaching F1, Jack Brabham had a look at the workshop and asked/ "Where is my car ?" John Cooper pointed to a pile of tubes and replied: "There. You will build your car yourself." And he showed him the band sawn and the welding Equipment. Jack Brabham did his time in the workshop, raced, repaired his cars and others, and went on to become 3 times world champion.

No disrespect, but I don't think Michael Schumacher did anything like it. He didn't have to. He was given a car and a track to practice to fine tune it, try different settings, etc ... Was Schumacher less of a driver because he jumped in a car already built? I don't think so.

Hamilton came in an era when testing was strictly regulated. He didn't have to build his car like Brabham, but he didn't have the facilities Schumacher had either. Now is the world of simulators and restricted testing to get used to a car. Hamilton took up the challenge and won races and titles. Is Hamilton less deserving than Schumacher ? Certainly not. .

What Lewis’s colour is , what he wears , what music he listens to , how much of an egomaniac or a fake he is , all of it has no bearing whatsoever on his ability to drive . Fact is he is very good , better than most of his era and pretty obvious he has his fans and a whole bunch of detractors , especially on this site . Both fans and haters are entrenched in their opinions , you guys have been beating this dead horse for what seems an eternity now , it is beyond boring as you will never see eye to eye on this subject but yet continue to bicker just for the sake of arguing . Could you please put a stop to the nonsense , agree to disagree and move on . Everybody knows what everyone’s opinion is on this specific matter and nobody will budge , there is no need to subject us to the same opinion ad nauseum . All of you have lots of valuable insight you can contribute , why not just concentrate on that .

The tifosi don’t want the tool, ask the average Italian Ferrarista, they hate him. He is the enemy, the one with the target on his back. Tifosi yearn for the time the team pull their socks up and build a car that is a match for the Mercedes, as that day, our current drivers are more than capable of beating the big girls blouse in the silver arrow. He is nothing special, as I have repeated for group 44 ad nauseaum in this thread and others... no one here at FERRARIchat is going to change their mind for you girls so why bother trying. We all love Michael, and we all hate Elton.... one is the greatest champion ever (I’ll give you a hint, he’s a German fella) and one is driving the greatest f1 car ever in history, and is ONE of the better drivers of the current WEEK.

    FORZA FERRARI

I hope the Mercedes either break down or crash, ideally into each other, maybe they should put Rosberg in the second Mercedes, guaranteed carnage between the two of them, especially when Rosberg gets in front of the boohoo boy

So what? Do they only let Italian ferrari fans into the circuit nowadays then? No, they let everyone in, and many like to get autographs.... big whoop mate. If that’s your proof that Elton will he hired by ferrari, I recommend a change of tactic

Agreed, Leclerc is young and a perfect fit for Ferrari now. Whether he can do for Ferrari what Ham has done for Mercedes is another story.

I just think it’s hilarious when the Elton crowd have spent years telling us Elton will go to ferrari and we are all wrong when we state he won’t because we don’t want it, and yet again, he himself confirms we have never wanted him, and best of all, he doesn’t want to
Join us anyway - thank **** for that

Nice to have a new challenger at the top, now that the established ones are ageing, or fading away.
    I wish him well anyway.
At this point there is no certainty he will spend all his career at Ferrari anyway.

The thread is about Elton, not the race, hence of course he is the subject of conversation.

Whining? From Elton fans maybe. It’s a celebration thread here too - Elton admitted once again that ferrari don’t want him. Bloody fantastic result. Give us Charles any day

The thing is that Hamilton and MB are right at the centre of F1, and nobody can ignore their influence in the championship.
Basically, everything is in relation to Mercedes and Hamilton footprint.
Together, they have become the benchmark in team organisation, engineering and racecraft.
Maybe next year or the year after everything with be judged by Red Bull and Max' standards, or Ferrari and Leclerc's, who knows.

Different era, different rules. But, never before has the driver been a smaller part of the equation than now. Yes, the driver still matters but there is a reason that you see pairs of cars from the same team grouped together on the grid and in the final results. The better driver can overcome his teammate but rarely can he overcome a driver in a better car, absent some externality.

Michael Schumacher helped develop the entire team from a pretty low point. Of course he is and was deserving of accolades a chump like Elton can only dream of. Michael didn’t ‘jump into a car’, he fired that thing around Fiorano night and day till it was ready, helping develop every system on it. Elton just jumps into the best car on the grid which is also protected by a hotline to the FIA, Pirelli and Gary Connelly, his pet steward Anyone can do what Elton does given the car, NO ONE could do what Michael did
