China uses more coal than any other country because it is 4 times bigger than any other country (you really do need to get your head around the per capita thing); not to mention a huge part of it is in severe winter weather conditions but there are millions of people still living there. The point is, with all their disadvantages, they’re are still making great inroads into cleaning the place up, while we just go merrily along as if it’s still 1899... And yes, I’ve said many times before I wish the term glabal warming/climate change had never been invented because it’s just another word for pollution.

In what way is China 4 times bigger than any other country? In area it's not even in the top 3, and Russia isn't a long way off twice the size of China. Population? No. India has only a few % less people. Maybe you mean four times bigger than the population of the USA? So what? As my original graph shows, China burns more coal than the entire rest of the world combined. My head is "around" the per capita thing. It's not that complicated. My point is simply that per capita should not matter if you believe in the climate change religion and burning coal is bad.
Sorry, I did mean population and I was comparing it to only the developed countries, following on from the previous comments about them no longer being a developing nation. The world can only change as much as each person is willing to change, hence the importance of per capita. However also see my reply to Ian’s ‘per capita’ solar post.
Hahaha very clever Mr B, using the ‘per capita’ argument! However, to put that huge 250W per person production (which is a good thing!) into perspective, see the following percentages (of total energy usage in each country) China Australia Coal 59% 31.5% Renewable 22.1% 6.2% Other 18.9% 72% note this is all fossil fuels in Aus; includes nuclear in China Once again the point is China is moving much faster than us, even though we have the technical option (as proved by your chart) to be leaders in the field. You chart also shows up the disjunction between energy PRODUCTION and energy USAGE between the 2 countries. We have the ability to produce the highest per capita rate of clean energy and yet we still only manage around 6% of our usage? Actually this throws up one of the curious dichotomies in the energy ‘wars’ - in Australia, airconditioning is one of the major contributors to domestic energy use. In northern China winter heating is mostly by old-style boilers and oil burners and yet modern airconditioning is the most efficient mode. If China started to move to electric aircon using renewables, their consumption of fossil fuels would fall dramatically.

That's terrible. They get a card reader and retrieve the information including PINs from cards that have been swiped through it.
