Own a unique piece of automotive history: a 5.5L, 12-cylinder, 6-speed gated Ferrari. Very clean driver, five-owner car, mechanically flawless, extremely well maintained. I have owned this vehicle since November 2016 and have been driving it approximately 7000 miles per year. Some repainted areas here and there during previous ownership as should be expected in any driver-quality vehicle. All service is up-to-date with no deferred maintenance items. No effort has been spared to make this car mechanically as perfect as a 22 year-old vehicle can be. A detailed maintenance history folder is available and contains complete documentation starting in 2004. VIN ZFFWP44A5V0107635 (Assembly No. 24486) Le Mans Blue with Cuoio interior and blue carpeting (stunning combination) 6-speed manual 48,xxx miles (car is being driven frequently: miles will accumulate accordingly) Bosch Motronic 5.2 engine management with OBDII Custom aluminum radiator Custom handmade cat-back stainless exhaust (with bonus epic sound!) Good question. There never was a valve guide factory recall on the 456GT/M model line, though I think Ferrari did release an in-house bulletin at a certain point. Valve guides issues have appeared sporadically across the entire 456 production run (2013-2003) and have been discussed at some length on the 456/550/575 forum. Some forum members experienced this problem, and it seems that all of them did so with between 20,000 - 40,000 on the odometer. In summary, a valve guide issue on this model is easily identifiable by oily residue on the spark plugs, loss of compression and more visibly, white smoke on startup. It seems that a small number of vehicles have been affected by this problem. The forum consensus is that some isolated batches of valve guides installed at the factory had a random high copper content, which caused quicker wear, while other batches used on the same production line and at the same time didn't. In addition, on the same forum is generally agreed that if this problem doesn't manifest itself before reaching 35,000 or 40,000 miles, then it is safe to assume the car has a "good" set of valve guides installed. Again, this is empirical but valuable evidence. This 456GT never exhibited any of the symptoms described above: spark plugs have never shown any oily residue and there is absolutely no smoke of any kind (white or otherwise) upon startup.
In my post above I meant to say - correction highlighted in bold: "Valve guides issues have appeared sporadically across the entire 456 production run (1993-2003) and have been discussed at some length on the 456/550/575 forum".
I am posting a few additional pictures that address questions I have been asked via PM/email, etc. I certainly appreciate all the interest: all PMs have been replied to. 1) No dashboard separation/bubbling/otherwise at the air vents: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login 2) Yes, the two tool boxes are included: Image Unavailable, Please Login 3) No armrest/handle wear whatsoever: Image Unavailable, Please Login ... and finally a totally gratuitous picture of the beautiful shape lines of this car Image Unavailable, Please Login
Condition is just amazing. Price is great. Whoever bought this got a great looking car. The pre-M grill and hood just has so much more personality that the M's.To describe this as a driver, doesn't do it justice.
asgor how old are the kids that they cant fit in back seat. I have a six year old and wanting a 2+2. thx leeber
At six they will fit just fine. Mine are 10 (still kinda fits but not really comfortably) and 14 (he wouldn't ride any longer than 20 minutes in the back because is too cramped for his 5"4' size).
The pleasure was mine. In our increasingly complicated world it's getting more difficult to find people who are honorable and trustworthy: you are certainly one of them. Huzzah to your "new" car!
Just happened to notice that this beautiful car is for sale again on carsandbids.com https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rGz0mAY2/1997-ferrari-456-gt
