348 manual set is 3 volumes, not 2. They really need a gun to someones head to get $1200 for an incomplete set.

The CDs sold online contain the same pdfs that are/were available online as free downloads. And they do not contain the full-sized fold-out pages e.g. wiring diagrams.

While searching for mine I noticed that many of the printed copies were actually printed from the pdfs.

Thanks to all who have responded to my enquiry. It appears that purchasing a CD and having it printed at an office supply store is the best option for me. I was surprised at the cost of the original books ! Cheers, JGW

If you plan on sourcing the OE binders remember that they have 4 "rings" instead of the usual three rings. Something to think about for the printed copies.

For maintenance purposes or just for adding value to a car sale?

CD copies have their uses (portability) and printing 450+ pages can't be cheap. If you have a tablet or smartphone, you can load the CD contents onto that. As Wade says, the paper manual has fold-out wiring diagrams which are much easier to read than misaligned blurry photocopies: The CD wiring diagrams are known to be illegible in certain areas. The CD is also missing information on certain systems (spider roof, mousetrack seatbelts, etc). Sometimes country-specific paper manuals provide details missing on the CD. Sometimes they don't :p You have to play it by ear.
