we were invited to our friends daughters wedding in la but they called it off. we re still going but have lots time now. doing the Porsche driving experience one day. prob Peterson car museum. and la auto show will be there so prob see that too. I would like to do a guided tour but website says only early at 7.30am so that's out. what time is best for least crowds? any other things to do? non car related. we ve been la several times but not in 10 yrs. places to eat? our friends recommend craigs to see celebs but wife doesn't care so I will def pass on that.
thanks. we have nobu in ny so like something cant get at home. not sure where we are staying but I might be w Hollywood? how far is Malibu? also, haven't heard anything about fires in week or so. are they dying down? any rain? appreciate the advice.
Depends on the traffic but u could go to Malibu from W Hollywood in around 1 hour. There are some cool places in malibu I like...paradise cove for instance is really nice; there a few restaurants on the water or things like malibu Farm. Weather, I was there last week, has been nice! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Helicopter ride over to Catalina Island is always a fun day trip, when there the 2-hour west end Island excursion is really fun, you ride in a Jurassic Park style open-air Hum-Vee. What are your travel dates?
I enjoyed the Cali Science Center. They have the only two-seat (trainer) A12 Blackbird outside on display. Also have one of the three surviving space shuttles inside. I did that and also drove to Palmdale to see the A12 and SR71 side by side (only place in the world). I've always wanted to go to the Marconi automotive museum, but didn't have time. I skipped the Getty that my family went to while I was living the dream in Palmdale seeing all the Skunk Works stuff haha.
If you go to Fast Cars, go a few more miles down the road to Palos Verdes. There is a great place for dinner at the Terranea Resort called Mar'sel. Awesome views and food. BTW, great cars and facility at Fast Cars. I can spend hours there. https://www.terranea.com/dining/marsel
Might also be a good idea to mention what other type of interests you have. For example, one of my favorite places in L.A. (Brentwood ?) area is Will Rogers old estate with tranquil surroundings, including short nature hike trails, couple of them even leading to spot on a hill with one of the most spectacular views (on a clear day) in the L.A./SoCal area.
yes, def want to do some hiking. see that on so many tv shows, movies and looks spectacular. that and the spire rooftop for drinks looks like 2 things for sure on the list. thanks!
I recommend checking out the Huntington Library during the day, eat low key at Porto's Bakery and go to the Griffith Observatory at night.
Check out Franklin Canyon and the Hastain Trail. Only 10 min from downtown Beverly Hills and amazing views. Also where the Creature from the Black Lagoon lived. LOL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Canyon_Park Another hiking spot is Runyon Canyon. Trendy, but longer and steeper if you want it to be.
The LA auto show starts on Friday at the convention center downtown Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
Beverly hills and Petersen museum yesterday. Did tour of car vault which had amazing stuff but youre at mercy of guide as to what he talks about. He focused on movie and,tv cars while I wanted to hear about race cars. Manhattan beach and Porsche driving experience today. Btw Incredible amount of rolls Royce and Ferraris driving around here. See more in day of la than years in ny.
When you're in Manhattan Beach, have lunch at the North End Caffe and make sure you try the Kahlua pig egg rolls. You're welcome!
A few good places to eat in Manhattan Beach: MB Post (small plates and drinks), Arthur J (steaks), Strand House (views and good food), Brewco (beers on tap and good bar grub), Uncle Bills (for breakfast), Simmzy's (burgers). I would park in Metlox Plaza if you are driving. They have longer time parking meters, especially bottom floor. Just be aware that parking sucks in downtown Manhattan Beach.
The Strand House in Manhattan Beach is a great place for dinner with a nice ocean sunset view. Sunset time here is 4:46 today
