I lost a cam cap washer. Would a washer from the hardware store suffice or should I source one from Ricambi? Thanks. Charlie

It is unlikely you'll find a 6mm cone lock washer at the hardware store.

If it is an early car it may still have wavy washers. That you may find.

If you are going to have to mail order it, Ricambi has them for under $1 ea and you probably need other parts anyway.

By the way, since the superseded part at Ricambi is just a flat washer,

try local hardware or Home Deopt. Good old Ricambi, a $ for a 6 cent flat washer. I love Daniel but seriously.

That image doesn't look like a flat washer.

Belleville washer, not bellevue. (Bel-Metric seems to carry them, but might have a large minimum qnty). For a given ID, those with the smaller OD are more appropriate for using as a nut lockwasher. Belleville washers with a very large OD for a given ID are more typically stacked (either in series or parallel) to act as a spring element

I've used Bel-metric for all sorts of stuff and have never seen them require a minimum quantity for anything.

Note how the i.d. appears to be touching the surface of the table and the o.d appears to be slightly hovering above. It has a slight conical shape. It isn't a flat washer.
Official parts will almost always cost more. And paying $8 to ship a $0.06 washer from the cheap place costs more than adding a $1 washer to your next parts order and essentially shipping it for free, that was my point on just adding it to a parts order.

BTW, I've used Belmetric also and am pleased. It would also be easy to come up with an order there of good stuff. They have some of the cloth braided hoses that are so difficult to find.

I'll concede that the picture isn't all that clear. But if I need a part today, I'm not going to wait until I have a $100 order to get it. Also, I do find it annoying when a standard Bosch part, or a washer, cost 3, 4, event 10 times more from an "official" supplier. Even more annoying when the official supplier say it's unavailable and its available from a local source. And, part in question, I'm pretty sure Ferrari isn't making spring washers. :)

That is a good question. Can't find it anywhere!! Used a magnet and fiberoptic scope....no joy! Hopefully nowhere important. I ordered some washers from Ricambi. Thanks for all the discussion.

Thanks. I wanted to compare. Belmetric would have been $5. You could have saved $2 plus $0.67 for each washer. Next time you are at a Cars and Coffee think about that. You could have had a free coffee. :D

I have been in this business a long time and I have a very simple policy. If something gets dropped under the hood it gets found. Period.

I have seen way too many bad outcomes by not doing that.

Well, apparently all it took was purchasing new washers and changing the battery in my flashlight. Duh! I found it on the floor today. I think between my wrenching buddy and I we looked on the floor several times. Very happy!

I once spent three nights looking for an 10mm nut. If you drop it, you have to find it. The risk is too great with these engines to do otherwise.
